What horrid bad luck
Bah to stinky landlord person!!! Spend an hour on Rightmove - you never know what little gift may have been listed this morning. Are you moving somewhere with b/f or are you getting a place by yourself? Does he have a house you could store some books in for a while?
I definitely think you should whack your list of stuff to sell up...
I for one LOVE books. After barfing on the floor I bought myself a new book case. I filled it this morning - and horror upon horrors... There are GAPS! I should like to fill these0 -
I applied to rent this house and everything was ok - met the landlord, passed the credit check (how - I don't know) but he had found a buyer for the house instead.
Near junction 4 off from M42
I am now looking houses that are available and found one, BF is calling the agent as I type.
Also I noticed that one house that I have already seen is still available (they are asking too much rent). What I liked about the house that I applied for was that I can take all my books with me and then sell them at my leasure instead of having to flog them off and get nothing back. And this house is very very small and definitely don't have the space for them. No - I don't want to pay for storing the books as I don't think I will get that money back when I sell them.
Also it could be that the sale will fall through but by that time I definitely need to live somewhere.
The universe might think you should sell the books first, get some money and not move them into another home... sort of it's helping you declutter? Also sounds like they are dictating the kind of place you need?

I was going to just flog them but when I found the house to where I could have taken them with me I felt such relief.
Anyway, BF doesn't have the space but he has now viewing arranged for one house and potetially to another one as well. I am going to look into temporary storage solutions for all my household in the meanwhile."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Some good points re your books Marru - but I can understand why you would rather move them then sell them gradually to maximise the income. Of course, the question is, WILL you sell them, or will you prevaricate and leave them gathering dust?
If the latter, then is this the universe giving you a kick?
As for the house - clearly you weren't meant to live there, although the timing is a bit of a pain. I agree with the comment above about trying to negotiate rent on the one that is currently too expensive - even if it gave you a short term fix for 6 months at least that would give you time to find the right place.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Marru - On the last move we knew we were going to be in store for minimum 6 months, the storage costs were per square metre, it actually became a simple exercise to work out what was worth storing and what wasn't. Most white goods etc were worth selling cheaply rather than storing.
Might it be worth doing a costing on the books, with extra removal costs, and if they are restricting where you can rent, rental costs etc.. It might be cost effective to take a short term financial hit now, rather than pay more over a longer period of time.
Edit - just spotted that you might be going into store, do price up the cost of storing the books.0 -

However - have decided that I am never going to set up to sell the ones I don't want - so will take some every time I go into town and drop off at the charity book shop.
And tomorrow (if I can't get through on the phone today) will go into BHF furniture shop and arrange uplift for the trolley I have finally admitted I do not have a space for plus some more bits and pieces.0 -
