I have found them a real problem this year.

I have made traps for them out of empty 2l pop bottles for outside, and made a smaller one out of a small water bottle.

I put three in my flower beds as the damn cat next door treats it like a toilet and there were soooooo many flies.

I baited it with 3 different baits - fish, chicken and fruit. The stinkiest chicken and fish got more full than the fruit one but in the kitchen, the little one had fruit and sugar in it and caught all the fruit flies :)

    I hate flies!

    Instructions HERE

I made a new fly trap yesterday using dog faeces. I know it is gross but I figured as the flies are going crazy for cat poo, poo was what they liked best _pale_

It worked so well that I made another today!

In the two days I have half a LITRE of dead flies  in two bottle traps, and only the odd one or two in the garden :T:T:T

The crap trap is working! :rotfl:
  • I was told today that vinigar in a bottle works but not had time to try it

you can get a hand held one looks like a tennis racket runs on batteries to zap them.....not tried it myself but customers tell they are are good our are £3.99 but possible cheaper ones to be found.
also I have the door curtains like strings which keeps them out.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We've given up, after all these tips, and yesterday bought fly papers. I hate these things, but my heck they have been successful.

Our kitchen is clear of live flies for the first time in weeks. Its worth the small expense IMO.

Has anyone else had a problem with pantry moths? Have thrown out anything in the cupboards that they might have got into, flour etc. Everything else now in sealed boxes. Have scrubbed cupboards out but still getting at least a couple a day which I hoover up.

    http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/quick-and-easy-to-make-highly-effective-fly-trap/

Simple. First you need to source some poo _pale_ Then just cut the top off a 2l coke bottle (or similar) and remove the cap. Place some crap in the bottom of the bottle _pale_ Invert the top piece into the bottom and seal them together with any sticky tape.

Place outside where your fly problem is and bingo! You have hundreds of flies caught and they can't find their way out! I have even caught 4 wasps along with the flies!!!

You can hang it in a tree but I just left it on the grass.

Showed my friend today and she was gobsmacked how many flies were in there! More than the one in the picture in the link.

(I have made these with old chicken, half a sardine and other baits but poo is their favourite and caught at least 10 times more flies than the fish)
