oh Sue I hate the smell of citronella myself so it would probably work -yuk

try putting 3 or 4 pennies in a zip lock bag half filled with water and taping it to the open door or window...
apparently because they have numerous eyes the sun hits the pennies in water and blinds them temporarily and scares them away
i was sceptic at first...but it really worksIf we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

Is anyone else finding them particularly bad this year?
I've got one of the tennis bat zapper thingies, which gets rid of them quickly, even the ones that don't get zapped fly away, must be the sound of it or the smell of their pals frying.
I think I'll put my crystal back over the patio doors, that might help in a similar way to the pennies and water.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
ive merged this with an older thread which should help

OK - any ideas most welcome!
Tis the season for flies to make themselves known and the ones on the kitchen are bugging me!
Is there any way I can deal with them without the flyspray - not too keen on flyspray coz of smell etc...
I will consider any other method whether humane or not.
(PS I have two cats and neither of them are interested in flies.....):(
Thank you!!:j I feel I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe :j0 -
I've added your thread to our existing one of getting rid of flies where hopefully you will get some ideas.

I have found them a real problem this year.
I have made traps for them out of empty 2l pop bottles for outside, and made a smaller one out of a small water bottle.
I put three in my flower beds as the damn cat next door treats it like a toilet and there were soooooo many flies.
I baited it with 3 different baits - fish, chicken and fruit. The stinkiest chicken and fish got more full than the fruit one but in the kitchen, the little one had fruit and sugar in it and caught all the fruit flies
I hate flies!

Does your window open wide? I've been 'batting' them out with my feather duster!! Worked a treat, and was a fun game
I have no idea where ours came from. Went out, window was shut, and came home to dozens of the little blighters!0
