Getting rid of flies
Comments
-
We just bought a fly screen from LIDL for the conservatory door in summer, it has worked a treat so far, it blows a bit when it's windy though, but we've hardly had any flies in since putting it up.0

I don't know if this has been mentioned as I haven't the patience to read the whole thread, but we had an infestation of flies last year-I thought I was going to go mad as I absolutely hate them, make me feel sick (prefer spiders-they eat flies-yey!)
I bought some of these plug in fliy trappers. It gives off a light to attract them, when they fly in they hit the hot bit at the back and then collect in the bottom and you empty it out. They work really well,I was surprised. Smaller version of the things you see in chips shop etc.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -

They are good but also kill off good flying insects not just flies.
At one of the little Spanish restaurants we went to out in the country, they pin sardines up on the trees, the flies go to them and so don´t bother the diners:j0 -
sorry if this is in the wrong place
but in this weather i usually have all my windows and doors open ,but this year the house is getting inundated with flies ,
does anyone know of a spray or mix that i could use to either get rid off them or to keep them out ,
it's driving me potty0 -
If you have flowerbeds under the windows you can grow wild garlic - insects hate the smell and stay out, although if you dislike the smell of garlic too it may not be so helpful. Otherwise, a spraying a mix of a few drops of eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree or citronella oil, a few drops of washing up liquid mixed with water in a spray bottle and sprayed around window and door frames, or hanging bunches of lavender seem to work as well, albeit not as effectively.
Of course, for a truly old-style way nothing beats a rolled up newspaper and a little skill.

Weve got flowerbeds under the windowsill............didn't know about the wild garlic........might give than a go.
It really does get a case or 'open the door the flies swarm in, close the door and I'm sweating again' as the song goes................lol
We have got some of those sticky fly stips and they seem to work well but like you say, you can't beat a good swat.........I've got a fly swat to hand and in the other room a spare newspaper, just in case............many's the chase I've had with one or two of the little beastiesMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

If you have access to kids or a man both get immense enjoyment from the electrified tennis racket style swats. They are more expensive than newspaper, but they hold the interest longer.0

Using white vinegar to clean your worktops will definitely help. Many years ago, I was introduced to vinegar (pre-MSE days!) by a cleaner in Portugal and her reason was that it helped to keep flies away.
Although you can initially smell it, the scent evaporates quickly. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
