I need to chnage accounts but not sure which bank to go with, well its either barclays, halifax or lloyds or maybe hsbc

by any chance is there some kind of website that show you how each of the banks perform in various tasks like customer service

All the banks that you mention are (generally) pretty good for customer service.

The ones to watch out for are Santander and Natwest.

I would say Natwest, no problems. Online banking is excellent.

The only people who moan at their bank is usually the ones in debt to them, go figure.

All banks have chequered pasts in customer service. I've never had problems with RBS, however, on the basis of my own experience I would advise people to avoid Barclays like the plague, I'm sure that other people will have different experiences. I'm sure that that we will all agree to avoid Santander.

I just opened new accounts with RBS in Scotland, very easy to do online. It allows you to transfer stuff between accounts before the Santander move occurs.

How did you do this, if it's not a stupid question? And once done did you just close your other accounts? What about DD's etc? I have never transferred bank accounts before & am very nervous about stuff going wrong.
One more thing. Isn't there a branch in London called Drummonds that isn't being taken over by Santander? Could I not move there?
I really wish I didn't have to go through all this, it's such a pain:mad:

Ive just switched from Santander (A&L) to Natwest (I live in England, so Santander wont get their hands on my account!), and have found their cs to be quite good, and their online banking is excellent. Apparently RBS and Natwest's online banking is the same, something to consider if you were happy with RBS. Ive also previoulsy banked with Barclays, and didnt have too many complaints with them, apart from their sales staff can be quite persistent

I opened a new RBS account via the website and picked a Scottish branch. I believe the 'Drummonds Bank' branch on Admiralty Arch, Charing Cross is staying with RBS so you could also open an account at that branch.
I have kept open my existing RBS account open while I switch over the direct debits, payments etc. Ask them for an overdraft 'just in case' and check the accounts daily and if necessary swap money by internal transfer.
There is a form you can get from RBS (and phone number to request it) to switch the account holding branch but they dont publicise this as that would breach the terms of the branch sale. There are threads dealing with the RBS branch sale that have the number.

Santander are getting RBS branches in England (bar one I think) and Natwest branches in Scotland.
