didnt really answer the question i asked, i know what i want which is a current account but i dont want to change to a bank that has crap cs do i
Well some people on here dont really know what they want from the different banks. Thats all.
As has been discussed the two / three are RBS / Natwest or First Direct .
Some people like Lloyds I am not so sure, but they have good rates. Again personally Barclays always seem like trouble to me, yet people do have good experince.
It depends on salary & needs. As you say customer service is important but that does slightly reflect on the expectation of the bank and their customers as well. The above all have UK call centers for everyone, that means so much.
HSBC dont, which is not a problem. So why cant they have 24 Call centers as well. But First Direct might push you towards HSBC products if you require certain investment products, whilst natwest have their own departments.0 -
If you stay in credit for all or most of the month, then look at Halifax's Reward current account - you can get £5 per month from them. I find that their internet banking is excellent (much better than RBS's in my opinion) and customer service good.
Switching to Natwest wouldn't really give you very much ... they pay 0% interest on their current account, and customer service there is not much better than Santander.
You only get the £5 if you pay in £1,000 per month, and OP doesn't pay in that much
I have both RBS and Halifax reward accounts but might dump the RBS, although I've been with them since about 1981 - I think the bank was Williams Deacons then - and it seems a shame but really don't want to bank with Santander.0 -
It depends on if you like visting a branch or not. There are some who must access their branch, others dont. If you need a branch the Natwest is a good choice. FD doesnt have any branchs although you can visit HSBC if needed. I have only spent 45 seconds in a branch this year, depositing a cheque.
HSBC are good if you travel regulary. I have too for work. HSBC have accounts in the countries currency if I go there often. So i have a Euro account which I transfer money into before I travel.0 -

Wait until we see what Santander do with the RBS accounts before dumping. You might be back to W&G.0 -

Lloyds TSB had fairly good customer service.I would say Natwest, no problems. Online banking is excellent.
The only people who moan at their bank is usually the ones in debt to them, go figure.
I had a lot of money in Santander, never even used O/D nor owed them a penny. I moaned about them because they are crap, it stopped me having access to my money due to poor IT systems, then lied repeatedly about fixing the issue, and their staff are idiots in person and on the phone. I've almost fully moved to FD.
The only people who put other peoples moans down to debt to banks (or condone such behaviour) are usually the ones that are conceited morons, go figure.Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.0 -
Its very difficult to say who is best & who isnt. It depends on what happens to your account. All banks have customers who are really lucky or have a good experience. Yet as with all things in life, there are bad ones situations that happen. Is it the banks fault well sometimes it is.0

Had wondered about that. What's the internet banking like with them? I never need to go into a branch anymore - nobody gives me cheques:(
This is a big decision I think. And one that needs careful consideration - and one I could do without, but hey ho such is life:)0 -
