This has been a brilliant thread to read, thanks to all contributors.

I'm sorry I'm not able to source cheaper heating oil yet, but am working on it. We are looking at the last few inches in the tank and need to order within the next month. I'm seriously considering switching off the boiler 1st June for the summer months and heat water using electric immersion heater.

What has really shocked me, now that I've read the thread and referred to my own fuel bills, is that the price increase for our heating oil over the past 12 months amounts to 28% !!!

    5/5/05 we ordered 500 litres (kerosene 28) @ 28.55/litre total inc vat £149.88
    1/12/05 another 500 litres @ 32.80/litre total inc vat £172.20

    today's best quote is 36.76/litre . . . . .

And the govt would like us to believe that inflation is 1.8% !!!!!
MFW - the light from the end of the tunnel is shining down on me . . . . .

£57K of my house still belongs to the bank, on target to clear 2015 but I'm hoping to get there much sooner.

    Looking forward to celebrating

Congratulations to thefunkygibbons on becoming mortgage free and thanks for the inspiration along the way :T

    Hi everybody,

with interest I read the article about switching supplier. In my example it worked out a saving of 32% = £105 if switched to British Gas. This price plan has a catch. Quote: "if you are applying for the Price Protection until April 2009 tariff there are cancellation penallties of £30 for gas and £20 for electricity if you leave British Gas before April 2009"

Basically if you use Energyhelpline on the British Gas tarif Click Energy you have to pay a fine with price capped contracts. It does not say what happens if fuels should get cheaper - will it be passed on to the customer as well? Any thoughts on if to take such a deal are greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

    Cheerio

you save 105 in the first year, no need to worry about a 30 pound leaving fee.

    Hi,

A while back I gave a link to our guide to buying oil, it's actually:

    http://www.oilpricecheck.co.uk/oil.htm

I see that prices are looking like rising again with the new unrest in the Middle East

    Thanks
