  • I've just rung around, and the best price I can get is 58.5. BJ is giving 58.35, but it is a split order, 500L for us, 500L for our neighbour (the tanks stand next to each other so no moving of vehicles) and I can't see BJ doing that service. There's no way of knowing which company will actually deliver the BJ stuff, so I can't phone them and agree a time and details like the split delivery.

It's only .15p/l, so £1.50 on the order, not really worth bothering with for the inconvenience!
  • You make a big claim to have found the cheapest heating oil then it turns out that heating oil is the most difficult item to find on your already difficult jargon loaded website.

Well, that was a wasted 15 seconds of my life that I'll not get back.

You know when something really irritates you, You just have to tell people?
I got a quote yesterday from a local company that emails me from time to time. I told them by email that I don`t need boiler servicing or oil watchman (or any other extras) and I would be paying by DD as that was the method I had presently.
So my tank is getting low and I rang my current provider for their best price. They were higher than the new quote so I asked them to close my account as I would go with the new company. My monthly DD was up to date and it was a good time to change to a new supplier.
I email the new company back and ask them to ring me regarding placing an order and giving my payment details, which they did about half an hour later.
The rep asks me if I own my property, I reply that I don`t (I live in a council owned property in a village that I have rented since 1991 and I have been paying £90 a month DD for oil recently, I work full time for the local NHS, not that it should make any difference).
She then tells me that I will have to pay the full amount up front as their insurers don`t allow them to let non home owners pay by DD! At current rates that is probably over £600 plus vat. I said I could make a payment by debit card for some but not all the amount.
Am I justified in feeling a little discriminated against and more than a little miffed! Well I do.
I feel better for getting that off my chest, thank you for reading.
  • This is a little out of date now but just in case somebody is collecting data I got 57.40 on 1st March.

jh.y, I'd be feeling a bit annoyed about that too, justified or not.
    Whatever

Maybe it's me, but they run a business to make money, not out of the good of their heart. If they don't want to take a DD from someone, then go somewhere else for your oil. It's their right to make their own rules. If all the oil companies do the same thing, (I have no idea, as we've always paid when we've got the oil) then that should tell you something. That they've learnt by practice.

Have been quoted 58.26 for 1200 litres............... the big decision is whether to wait till mid summer and hopefully get reduced price, or will this mid-east unrest keep pushing price up....need a crystal ball !

Can anyone tell me if most companies have a cut of date during the year ?

Gleaner won't carry forward anything past May and I wasn't sure if this was normal practise.
I have been caught by needing to order now which means I need to pay within 4 weeks.

If I was to order on 2nd May I could just pay it as normal on standing order.
My account is in credit for 3/4s of the year and this seems a bit unfair. How can it be a budget account when you can still get caught with huge bill.
It is years since I had a budget account and am not sure if all companies do this now.
