Work is not always horrible and depressing unless you have that attitude!

    Im not sure about that.
    You ever log onto facebook?
I have about 200 friends on there, about 150 of them wishing the week away in their status updates, so that they can start the weekend. Endless complaining about hating being at work and how much life sucks. If they could press a button and skip the working week, they all would!
    Lets not kid ourselves.

Having said that, I have worked and I will work again. Im just not gonna be bullied into a job that isn't at all practical for me.

There are many more things in life to complain about than working. People with illnesses who would love the change, health and ability to go out to work.

My sister worked for a supermarket, she didn't really like it much but when she became terminally ill she said she would just love to be able to have that job and not cancer. She never got the chance to work again.

Absolutely. But tell that to the millions of people doing the complaining.
Im very sorry to hear about your sister. Like many of us, I too have been touched by cancer.
Obviously, everyone would choose to have to go to work rather than having a horrible illness, although, that isn't the choice that is given to us. I would never make that comparison.

As stated, I have worked for 4 years, and I intend to work again. Im not quite the Devil im being made out to be. Im just maybe a little too honest about my feelings

I avoided applying for NMW jobs for about 2 1/2 months after I got made redundant. Then I persuaded the JC to do me a 'better-off calculation', and discovered I would get £36 p/w in WTC, so could take a NMW job after all.

As for being nervous when taking a driving test, I was the same, then I found the solution, take a travel sickness tablet 1 hour before the test. Worked perfectly.

The extra £30 a week can go towards driving lessons?
    2x £5 JD Voucher
I want my Sledge Book & DVD
  • So what salary and job type are you looking for? I think you need to change your search criteria when at the job centre doing job searches. At this time you can't afford to over value yourself (everyone does usually).

I can not believe the attitude of the OP..complaining about having to travel for an hour and a half for an interview, and then walk 15 mins. !!!!!!, you have been given the oppourtunity of a job..who cares what its doing or how much more than your JSA would pay. Its a job, and guess what, there are hundreds of us in rubbish jobs who are paying through our taxes for you to sit your lazy !!! in front of the telly, and moan about an opportunity.

My OH has to drive 70miles return each day to work, and then do a 12 hour plus day at the office, I (when not on mat.leave) work in a supermarket 5 days a week, just so we can keep a roof over our heads, why do we bother, when people like you think you can pick and choose, while spending our money!

    FUMING!

    Hi,

Can I ask Morganedge what was the job that you went for, if you have said, sorry I've missed it, just interested.

A panel of three at an interview sounds OTT for NMW pay, I'm not doubting you btw, hope that dosn't sound as if I am. I would expect that for a 40k Sales Manager type job

Also, what would you like to do, are there re-training options for you.

My situation is redundant from Coach Company which mostly did school contract work, contracts up for re-tender, none won. I worked in Office Admin, and don't particularly want to do that again, although am applying for any that I think I can do.
My Job Centre (Leicester), has put me in touch with various people who can offer free courses (within the first 13 weeks of Unemployment on JSA)
So I'm doing Emergency First Aid in the Workplace, A Food Hygiene Certificate - this is the way I want to go, if I'm lucky enough to have the luxery of choice!?! and H&S at Work Course.

    Hi.
It was only for a job as an office assistant for a big tree surgery company way out in the sticks, hence the further walk after getting off the bus.
There was a lady in the office already. The guy who greeted me (I guess some sort of office manager) and the person who done the main interviewing. They were all firing questions at me though and i didn't know what to say, lol. Was just waiting for it to be over and done with!

There dont seem to be any courses of value open to me.
They insisted that I go on a PC literacy type course. I think this is stupid considering that I already have an advanced GNVQ in IT (but no doubt most of the people on this forum would call me lazy for not wanting to do it, LOL)
There's also other pointless courses to do with maths and English. (I have a B GCSE in English and an A* in Maths) but ill likely be sent on these soon I imagine.

    No practical courses.

It would be great if they could send me on a course to learn an actual trade like plastering or something, but that doesn't seem available. Not sure they even exist.

What would I like to do you say? I've never known. Sadly, nothing 'work wise' has ever remotely interested me and so I've spent 4 years mainly just working in warehouses and some office jobs etc.

Most enjoyable job I had was a very very physical job working for builder and my job was simply to carry big bags of sand around and to smash up big rocks with a sledgehammer for 8 hours a day. I loved it. Didn't have to think and got a good sweat going. Like I say, Im probably not quite as lazy as im portrayed, lol.

I assume any course that i liked the look of at a local college would have to be under 16 hours per week? (assuming they'd be wiling to help with costs which i doubt they would)
