I hope the OP get's the job, and as it has been arranged by the JC then the OP will have to come up with a very good excuse not to accept the job.

I've just been offered a £13k /year job with at least 3-4 hours return commute on public transport 5 days a week. But at least it's a job. :) No sympathy for OP. In fact I would say there should be automatic sanctions for anyone that attends a job interview inappropriately dressed/groomed for it or who tries to discourage the potential employer in any other way.

Firstly use the jobcentres pay for travel scheme for the interview. If you get offered it and are still convinced you can't do it they will get you to fill out a refusal form which gets sent off for a decision.

I had to do one of these a few weeks ago due to the jobcentre lying to me about public transport links being close to a job where they werent. I got a letter back saying "your claim is no longer in doubt" and all was fine.

I first read this thread yesterday. I was determined not to comment, but to be honest I am really sad that there are people who when have the opportunities handed to them turn their nose up at them.

It's so demoralising to go through dozens of applications and not get so much as an acknowledgement letter, yet here you are with an interview a lot of people would be grateful for. But I guess you are not since you appear to be one of those people who thinks the world owes them a living. Newsflash: the world owes you NOTHING.

Besides are you not fed up of signing on and living on the pittance that is JSA?

Well, I've read this thread, I wonder if the OP will get the job.

Anyway, regarding the bus, 1 hour isn't that bad at all, someone said about reading a book, its what I used to do before I could drive, quite enjoyed it as well.

Cost wise, here you can get a weekly bus ticket which can be used on all routes (if he OP has to use two buses), here it costs £14.50, yes minimum wage isn't great to say the least but £14.50 is pretty cheap.

If the OP had have passed their driving test, running a car is more than this!!!

    Im back!

    It was b-r-u-t-a-l !

Bus took nearly 1.5 hours to get there, then i had to walk for 15 minutes to the destination.

The Interview itself was the most painful though! Interviewed by 3 people at the same time, lol.
Long silences. I didn't know how to answer some of the questions put to me. Just got tongue tied and had nothing to say. Im very very bad at interviews. Hate being the centre of attention trying to impress people. I was just dieing to get out of there!

He had quite a few more people to see from the jobcentre although mentioned that some people hadn't bothered to turn up, so I guess im the only idiot who bothered to actually attend the interview today!
I bet the people who didn't bother to turn up wont get in any trouble with the jobcentre and will just make up excuses.

    So glad it's over.

thanks to Jinx, paris5000 and a few others.

What did they say about the jeans ? it sounds like you did not get the job.

I would start looking on jobsites such as Gumtree and jobsite so that when you go back to the jobcentre you can tell them that you have more interviews lined up.

A job is a job, depends how desperate you are to get back on the ladder. You could try your best and get the job, while you have this one you can apply for better jobs and continue working till your ideal job comes along.

Takes me an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening to get back and forth to work, i do it because i have a family to support at home, and if i didn't i would still do it for Beer tokens :)

I remember being unemployed 7 years ago, i diodn't even bother going to the job centre or signing on, i was determined to get a job and i applied for everything.

    Good luck with it.

    Didn't mention the jeans.
The female interviewer was super smartly dressed. One of the guys was wearing a shirt and tie, but the other interviewer was just in jeans like me.

I've had no problems with the jobcentre really so everything should be OK. I had my 12 week interview last week and they were impressed with the amount of proof that I showed them (saved job applications, sent emails, rejection letters etc).

Yes, id like a job Rhodod, but not one where im about £30 better off per week (after taxes and travel) than I am now, but also spending about 60% of my week on a bus and in an office. Nobody would sell their life for an extra £30 if they were being honest with themselves and not just spitting out righteous indignations across an internet forum.
