2nd heating engineer had a great sounding system and ideas but again hugely expensive. We have the wood burner in the living room lit again tonight. The temperature was just 15oC here and 23 in the town we did our shopping in!

At the moment we are burning scavanged wood so it is free :D We are trying to save every penny.

'Friends' still haven't paid Mr P but we had a loan of some cash for food shopping.
I have spent £90 today at 4ldi but the last big shop was three weeks ago tomorrow.

Feeling good because we have food in the fridge and cupboards and we are warm tonight :)

Today is going to be another NSD as I am staying at home and will not be ordering anything off the internet :) being very good.

I have applied for an ISA to put boiler money away and can add to it from my current account. I am thinking I will transfer all the odd pennies at the end of each day and see if I can increase it a little without it 'hurting' too much.

Beds have been stripped, gently, as I pulled a muscle in my chest when trying to pull up a weed at the allotment the other day. I was sitting on my little stool and stretched away from me and something went 'ping' and hurt a lot. :D I really can't be trusted :D:D

DA phoned last night to say that my cousin has been around and is now doing her shopping, helping her wash etc. She lives just 5 miles from DA so her ability to help is a Godsend.
Poor DC has been carer to her father for months but he has had to go into a care home as it was too much for her.

DB's daughter is coming over from Oz to stay with him next week. They are both very excited. I can't wait either as it is 8 years since I last saw her.

  • Owwwie to the pulled muscle hope it's feeling better soon!

I do a 'round down' every day on my bank accounts (have lots for different pots) as they are all with one bank I can see them all together when I log in, so I just round them all to the nearest £1 and put the extra into my emergency funds :) I don't notice the pennies missing and it's a good way to keep the emergency fund topped up! My ISA is still sitting there with £1 in it so i'm sure you must be doing better than me on that front ;) lol x

DFW I don't know why I have never thought of it before. My ISA is still empty :( But I do have my heating cheque to go into it. :)

I don't know if I said a couple of weeks ago but my actifry blew up spectacularly with flames acrid smoke and a horrible smell. I am going to try to find something similar on Freegle or Freecycle. Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for low fat chips cooking etc.

I am sure I will feel the same way. I wish I knew about it earlier. Little things like that please me too.

Yesterday was a NSD but Mr P persuaded me to buy a bottle of red wine for this evening.

Then I remembered I had offered to babysit this evening so no wine for either of us. (We can have it tomorrow) Mr P came with me. We watched The Hobbit dvd again. He is now fast asleep on the sofa 'watching' the football and snoring loudly. :D

DS2 might be coming home permanently as his job is under threat and he won't be able to pay his rent. We do seem to go round in circles in this household. He is coming home on Monday.

Mr P is going to collect him and as many of his things as we can get in the pickup. The 40 inch CRT TV we got for him on Freecycle doesn't seem like such a good idea now it is coming here. He is going to ask the landlord if he would like to keep it. His lease ends on 31st so he needs our help.

'Friend' who owes a lot of money gave Mr P £50 to keep us going for the weekend. We should be going to a family wedding 6th September so hope she comes up with the cash by then. Though I think Mr P might be trying to find reasons not to go.....

I have organised a house swap so only extra cost is fuel to get to Essex.

  • great news on the house swap that will save some money :) you're coming over to my neck of the woods, that's quite some way from where you are living isn't it?

Will ds2 coming home mean more money to the budget? How's the weather over near you? I was walking the dog last night and it was only 8.40 and it was pitch black and freezing :( reminded me winter is on its way! I then thought of you and a few others on here that get it much worse than we do so it made me feel thankful that I have a teensy house that isn't all that hard to heat up in the winter :) has your budgeting throughout the year gone well so you will be ok over the winter? :)

    Hi DFW
DS2 is going to be told on Tuesday (tomorrow) if his department is to be kept on or if they all have to go. They are on a nil contract so he has no definite income.

If he is kept on then he will move out again as soon as he finds new accommodation. If not he will be starting all over again applying for jobs.

It will mean an extra mouth to feed but even when on Jobseekers Allowance he will have some spare to give to me for his keep.

He is quite handy at joinery and has also worked as a plasterers labourer so he can do some jobs in the house, and he can do the accounts too :D

Now I am thinking he could be very useful to me..........but I want him to be able to fend for himself and find something permanent. |He really wants an accountancy firm to take him on as he is desperate to do his (?AACs?) accountancy exams.

The weather is glorious again. We had the village picnic on the green and it was a great day. I managed to have a NSD as I took a flask as well as food.
We are getting ready for Winter with the extra insulation in the ceilings
and are hoping that we will have enough bookings to see us through the Winter. It will mean working on getting some last minute bookings like we did last year and I will make sure I charge enough to cover our costs.

Today we had the electric car charging pod fitted. Now up and ready for guests with electric cars :D It was free of charge :D I will have to do some research to find out how to find and attract electric car users.

I am hoping that we can get to DFW's neck of the woods in 10 day's time on a tank of petrol. The car is pretty thirsty round the hills here as it is an automatic but does better on the motorway. I know a electric car wouldn't get so far.
