I have spent today helping to look after DGD while DD cleaned the cottage. Now I have a really bad back :( I really am in the wars ATM.

Before DD arrived I had a go at vacuuming the ground floor of our house. Then checked bank balances and direct debits. All appear to be running smoothly with our new bank account :D The changeover was relatively painless.

Paying off personal debts has had to be put on hold until DH has more regular work though it is picking up at last. All business debts are still gradually coming down. I am going to list them all separately in my signature.

And the total weight loss from being ill has been 5lb :) I am quite pleased about it but wouldn't like to go through the same thing again. I had better make sure I keep it off.

Last night I tried to feed the dogs and hens and wasted loads of feed as I spilt it out of the bins.

Both bins are getting low so instead of bending over and scooping it out I tried to lift the plastic bin and pour. I should have learnt the first time. So the hens and the dogs thought it was Christms they had so much extra. It was all over the ground.

My annoyance is that it won't be the hens and dogs who get the feed but pheasants, jackdaws and (I hope not) rats.

Mr P came in late as he had been out helping a friend. When I asked why he didn't come back earlier to help at home he said I looked quite comfortable sitting and didn't know my back was bad. I have asked him (again) to go and see the doctor about his hearing :D I thought we had a conversation which he didn't actually hear properly. He was upset to find out how bad I was when he eventually came home.

The people who left my lovely cottage yesterday had spilt a lot of an orange substance on the living room carpet. I spent ages trying different products to get the carpet clean again. When I wiped the hob the cloth was orange so I guess it was a pasta sauce. But this was three adults, no children. And not in one spot on the carpet. There were two large spots and then a trail and lots of spots.

DH thinks the carpet cleaning/scrubbing caused the backache. I was sitting on the floor doing it so it is unlikely. I did eventually get it completely clean again but it was a huge worry as we had new people coming in last night. DH wants me to make a complaint and claim extra cleaning charges. I won't as DD did the rest of the cleaning as usual.

DD wants to take me to the chiro today to see if they can help sort my back out quickly but it is £30 a session. I can claim 80% back but need the funds in the first place.

Good news on seedlings. While I was ill Mr Pooh watered them every day. I now have courgettes, runner beans, peas, speedy salad leaves, pak choi and gem lettuce seedlings. Nothing to eat yet but so much more promising than last year.

I saved money on vets fees too the other night. Little dog stole a tub of grapes off the kichen table. I rang the vets and as they were about to close the receptionist said it was going to cost a huge amount to see the vet as it was 'out of hours'. She asked the vet's advice. She said I had to make a salt water solution and get the dog to drink it. Then the dog would vomit and should be okay, but to keep an eye on her all evening. I had a plastic pippette so I filled it with water, got it down the dog's throat. Then she did what was expected. :) I then got the men to make their own dinner as I definitely didn't fancy anything by then. The dog was fine. The vet said 30g of grapes per kg of dog body weight is the ?fatal amount. And I also found out that raisins are much more dangerous than grapes!

I love your signature brizzled. It is a good reminder for me.
After a difficult night, unable to get comfortable I slept in this morning.

We are collecting a bed base I won on ebay at the weekend. £62 for a solid pine base. And I mean solid, not a cheap version. The idea is to make our bed firmer so we are keeping our mattress. My budget was £65 and we found one just 22 miles away which is quite a feat for us living in the back of beyond. If my back can cope I am going in Mr P's pick up to collect it this evening. If not he can take DB.

DB is still without work but DS2 started his new job on Monday. I have a few things DB can help me with if he feels like doing something, like repainting our gable end as it took some battering over the Winter.

Mr P is really happy working outside. Building an extension for a friend at the moment. And he is being paid :D

Our plan is that he concentrates on paying off the garage bill and I look after domestic finances. This is a major improvement as after his breakdown 20 years ago it has ALL, everything been left for me to do.

Today I am preparing the food for the coffee morning tomorrow with help from DD. I have decided to make the oatie biscuits I make for the cottage guests and some cheese scones.

I have started a grocery price book. It will hopefully help me to recognise when things we usually buy are on special offer. Then I went a bought a bag of SR flour for £1.50!! but it was at the local shop and it saved me the petrol to somewhere cheaper.

And last night we collected our new pine bed base. I mean our 3bay purchase. It was £62 but I aim to sell our headboard on 3bay next week and offset the cost a little. The base may be more difficult to get rid of but I can but try.

ETA I have overcooked a batch of scones. Any ideas on what to do with overcooked cheese scones? I thought I could make a faux minced beef cobbler but I have too many scones for just one cobbler.

I have 150 biscuits, 36 cheese scones, a banana loaf and 12 lemon buns all ready for tomorrow. As I haven't done this sort of thing for ages I have no idea how many people to expect. Bath and bed methinks.
