  • Hi Mrs P!

So good to hear things are looking up and that you had a fantastic time in Florida. I hope they find out what is wrong with your DiL soon. Have they looked into Endometriosis? Its often overlooked but is becoming more known now.

Wishing you all the best and perhaps you could use Lucky's idea of parcels that aren't meant to be opened but are full of love. (I loved that idea).

    Take Care

We have been working on our finances now that our cheques have arrived and cleared. Just over £2000 allocated to a variety of people and businesses.

I spent £210 and put DS2 on my car insurance so he can give me lifts when I am not feeling up to driving.

We bought the box of meat our local farmer has kept for us for months, in his freezer. It cost £140 but will last for months.

We are sending £50 to DD, DS1 and DS2. DS3 doesn't need any and is happy that his siblings are getting something from us. It is just so they can buy anything extra for Christmas. It is not their present. That will be given to them on Christmas day or later for DD as she is going to her in laws for Christmas. We have paid the garage £750 for now and will work out exactly what we can afford to pay once we receive the other money from the coop. It will be around £1000 :)

We only had DS2, Mr P and me here for Christmas so we have invited neighbours who will be on their own for Christmas. One will bring her child too. I think there will be 8 of us around our table.

Last week we had some disasters here but we thank God that we are still here.

I noticed the kitchen ceiling was bulging and the following day it was cracking so I sent DS2 into the loft as it is single storey over the kitchen and there was a pipe leaking. The felt and insulation was sodden. I called out the plumber who put in the new heating pipes and he found the leak which was quickly sorted out.

The next day the ceiling was even worse so Mr P put some boards up as a temporary measure with a piece of wood standing on the worktop and holding them in place. All very rustic :D

Now it is bulging around the boards Mr P put in. It is a mess and could easily come down. The heating company promised me a builder to repair the ceiling but no one arrived. I phoned this morning and he couldn't get the builder here as he couldn't drive on the roads. Funny that as we can :D

They promised me someone today or at least a phone call but still nothing. :(

Then on Friday DS3 was sitting in the lounge and smelt something burning. It was the electricity consumer board. A hole has burnt into the box with the trip switches. We are so very thankful that DS3 was in the room at the time. Our bed is almost exactly above the meter etc which are high up next to the ceiling. We have lovely old beams close to the electricity fuse etc boards.
DS3 has acute sense of smell as he has to be careful when on watch on his ship. It could have started during the night AND we discovered that none of our 3 smoke alarms were working!!!!! We now have three new alarms which we will test every week.and they had arced and started to burn.

The electrician was around here during his lunch break so we only had the morning without power. It was caused by someone putting two bare wires into the same fuse (back of the switches)

On Saturday DS2 found that the ground floor toilet was overflowing into our porch. It was from the cistern overflow. We took the mechanism apart and our local hardware store found us a replacement part for 90p. It was inconvenient :D more than anything as the water had to be turned off for most of the morning.

Mr P says something always goes wrong when we are given money. The car always broke down if his mum gave us a gift of cash :) The pattern has still not changed :D

DDIL is back in hospital again but this time they are planning surgery. the big problem for me is that I have no idea what she is having done. I just hope and pray they can sort things out for her.

What a worrying set of horrors!
I'm so glad the electricity board was found before a fire broke out. Who would have put two wires in like that? Horrifying.
I hope they find out what is wrong with your ddil and are able to fix it.

My sister says I should write a book:D From the day we moved here it was one step forward and three back.
She reckoned the number of things that have happened here would make a good story rotfl And it would sound like fiction as so many things couldn't possibly happen in one household.

Completing the work on the cottage without mishap was the best thing we have done and proved to us it is not all bad.

After a very uneventful ten years of marriage we moved here. Within two weeks we had three broken bones and a major incident where the boiler almost exploded. People were calling our house three mile island. :D

DDIL has set up a fundraiser. She is selling sweatshirts online to raise awareness of the condition her doctors yesterday told her is the problem. She did this from her bed.

DS1 and DDIL had planned to move this Friday to be closer to her parents. It has been put on hold while she waits for her surgery.

Did I say DS2 was doing a bit better? The last few days have been worse. He didn't leave his bed :) He is probably missing his brother which doesn't help. He also had a letter from DWP which said they had been under paying him since his claim was accepted. But also said to phone a number about an over payment in 2010!!!!!

When he phoned they said they were investigating an over payment of one week and it could take months so don't expect the money soon. They built up his state of mind as he suddenly thought he could go to his friends for the weekend and then smashed it.

He told me he thought he could give us something for Christmas food too. I know the doctor told me depression isn't catching but it breaks my heart to see him like this and I do wish there was something I could do to help him. It makes me weep :( Maybe today will be better for him.
