Last night was a lovely happy family dinner. DS 3 treated us all. DS 2 picked up a bit but hasn't ventured out of his room today. He does worry me.

Today I spent a lazy morning reading Saturday's newspaper in bed. Later I went to a friend's to give a young man some help with his reading.

We then had an 4lidi pork loin roast for tonight's dinner. It was okay but not really very special. I don't think I would buy it again. It wasn't cheap either.

The wood burner in the lounge has been lit today so we are all cosy including DS2 whose room is above the lounge. We put the wood pellet boiler on for one hour today to keep the chill off the house. It seems to be enough for now. It is extremely windy today and quite chilly and wet out so we feel very fortunate to be warm and dry. I am doing a little knitting, a hat for a sailor, for a charity. And if my fingers are up to it I will do a small section of a rag rug I started about 8 years ago. Feeling creative now the weather has closed in.

  • Hi Mrs Pooh

I have just caught up with all your diary and there have been so many times where I have wanted to cheer you on or comment. I have to say the death of DA brought tears to my eyes and I am sorry for your loss.

It must be so lovely to have so many family members and I bet you can't wait for your trip to Florida. Let me know if you have room in your suitcase ;)

    Regards

    October xx

Hello October starter :) Thank you for reading my diary. I hope that somewhere in it is some help for others. We do all learn from each other and Martin and the team, of course. I haven't reread much of my diary and definitely could not reread around the time of DA' s death. Maybe some day :) I think I am going to need a shipping container to take all my friends to Florida :D

Today DS2 and DS3 and I went to Blackpool to meet up with my father's cousin and his wife who were on holiday there. It was extremely busy but we found a W3therspoons and had a long leisurely lunch and lots of cups of teas. We had pooled our money to pay for petrol lunch and car park, before we set off, then the dear souls paid for lunch for us both as it is his birthday tomorrow (79). He was very close to my DF and it was great hearing about them fishing together as boys etc.

DS2 wasn't going to get out of bed but I managed to persuade him and it seemed to do him good.I don't want to speak too soon like I did before but hopefully DS2 feels a bit better in himself too.

We then collected some damson trees from a friend on the way home. I have one each for me and my nearest neighbours. They were free so worth the detour.

Tomorrow is haircut day. I can't remember when I last had it cut. Possibly in June? It is too long and wild looking at the moment. Verging on a Crystal Tips look if anyone else is old enough to remember her:)

A lovely surprise too was £210 which has been put in our bank account for the funeral tea we paid for in January. My elderly uncle phoned the solicitor to say we were in desperate need. I had to tell him we weren't't but he insisted that the money was better in my account than theirs.

AND I sold a swimsuit and a cast iron radiator for just under £35 on 3bay. More for the holiday fund.

Ooh,and I lost 2lbs this week so feeling happy.

Well done on the weight loss. I am at the age where every lb is hard fought for but yesterday wore a pair of Laura Ashley cord trousers which I haven't been able to get into/ pull up/ do up for more than 15 years. I kept them as I love them and are hardly worn. They've been a symbol of how far I needed to go so a huge milestone for me. A few years ago they wouldn't get past my knees!
I do feel for you with your ds2. I hope he finds a job soon.

Wow, verbatim, well done on your weight loss too. You must feel great being able to wear your cords. I haven't saved any trousers from when I was a size 10 but I do have a top I love which is tiny. When I can wear it I will post my achievement on here.

    I didn't realise I hadn't posted for a few days.

Today I have a dilemma. My friend wants to go out for lunch for her birthday and I don't have any spare cash. I do have a gourmet club card which I got free but all places listed are at least 40 miles from us and not very cheap. My friend will be doing driving and I usually pay half of petrol costs so I am scuppered. I can afford to eat at MrT as I have some clipboard points but not very suitable for birthday lunch. Do I say I am not welll as I have a stinking sore throat? Or just tell the truth?

Do both! Explain you are on a VERY tight budget at the moment and you are under the weather, see if she will hold off a month or so until things are better.
