Sorry this is a bit looooooooooooooooooong winded.

I think we are currently gonna be havin same problems as the OP.

I currently have 2 reward accounts
My wife has 2 reward accounts
and we have 1 joint reward account
    so five accounts in total.
We have just been using the standing order system to transfer the £1000 thru the accounts during the month.

Have been doing this over a year now. no problems

Last month I helped my brother and his son set up a reward account
1 single each and 1 joint
The main reason he wanted this was because of the AA breakdown cover and mobile insurance. He did not want to use this as his main account just thought he could cover the £12.50 monthly charge from the x3 free fivers.

So basically him not being soo good with computers he told me to manage the account for him.

So I transfered a £1000 from my account to his account on the 23rd oct. Then sent it to his sons single reward acc and to his single reward acc the back to their joint account the left it there.
Until today when I tried transfering the money £1000 aswell the the £300 they used to active the accounts back into my account it came up with a message you account has been suspended or blocked we will contact you shortly to confirm some details.

They shud be ringing us tomorrow well ringing me brother
Does anyone know roughly what sort of question they are likely to ask?
I have informed him of this. Just dont want them to ask him any awkward question to try and catch him out as he has not been using this account as his main acc.

Also on top of that all our address is the same So if they suspect anything dodgy on his accounts can they link this back to me and my wife account thru the same address.

    Thanks

So is the common theme here that the customers being banned have all been doing transfers cycling the same funds between accounts in other peoples names? i.e so long as you cycle between accounts in your own name you are safe?

Now, Halifax's worst kept secret is the loose conditions under which you can qualify for their £5 Reward. It's well documented, you do it, I do it, and many MSE'ers do it, and there's nothing wrong with it, as we're not in breach of the terms and conditions.
Well, not the original T&Cs which were in place when the reward account first became available, but now section 2 b) on page 14 says:

"You can hold one Reward Current Account in your sole name and one in joint names"

Not sure when this was changed.
  • yes we have 3 accounts one in my name, one joint and on in OH name

    Hi Guys

How could you get 3 Reward A/C ?.
I am not quote sure but I have been told a few time in this forum that you could just have 1 Reward A/C, so if people could get more than one I will defenitely want to try my luck as well.

I think they opened them before the T&Cs were changed. Halifax hasn't closed them.

The current terms and conditions say you can have one in your sole name and one jointly with another person. When the Reward account was first introduced, the limit was three per person, and when the t&c were changed, they allowed those accounts to stay open. That's how some of us have three of them. But you can't get three now.
  • Atlantis - was the online suspended when you were trying to make the payment back from his account to yours?
The reason its suspended is due to a security check, if this is the first time transferring from his to yours thats all they'll be checking, they won't be concerned why its happening but that it is a genuine transfer so don't be alarmed

It will be just a security check - It happened to my brothers account and he only has a easycash. He transferred £1500 from Savings to Easycash and then was transferring the money to his Teso account. Online access was suspended, when he rang online helpdesk - halifax told him - it was blocked because of unusual transaction - they just confirmed that he made this transactions and the online service was then unblocked.

I wasn't making reference to the number of Reward Current Accounts you can hold. I was referring to the conditions (or lack there of) under which one qualifies for the £5 Reward.

Incidentally the new T&C's came into effect in November 2009.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.
