Ha Ha! The Tories have only been in power for 4 months and they have shown themselves up for the lying bunch of charlatans that they are.

LOL, no, just playing along in the game.
And telling the truth?
Sorry? Where were these weapons of mass destruction?0 -
the idea is brilliant they want to reward people who are working so the fact they so if both parents are working they will get child benefit if they earn up to 80k odd but if only one parent works then 44 k is the limit far too many parents stay at home all day using the kids as an excuse(even though kids are at school)

Hang on a minute.
It's no ones business if a mother or father decides to stay at home looking after the kids.
They are not required to "get out there" and work.
We are not paying for their upkeep, their working partner is, so it's none of anyones business how they decide to live their home lives, let alone telling them they use their kids as an "excuse".0 -

you are paying for their upkeep if they are getting child benefit .. why should poor people who are on nmw jobs work hard to pay rich people to bring up their children

I'm not paying for the mother to live at home through CB. It's hardly enough to justify living at home on!
I'd be paying much more through childcare schemes for them to return to work.
Plus, the idea of a load of kids in childcare is a horrible one.
This is a family choice. If they can provide for themselves, then it's no ones business whether one decides to stay at home to raise the children.0 -

This proposal is absolutely bonkers. It's already bad enough that a couple both working, earning £60k p.a. pay a lot less tax than if one partner worked earning £60k and the other didn't work - due to the non-use of the non workers annual allowance and basic rate band. This proposal makes that stupid situation even worse. I thought the Tories said that they'd do something about the current 2 versus 1 worker household tax problem -instead they're making it worse. I really thought we'd seen the last of "the back of a fag packet" policies but it seems the new lot are just as bad. Here's a hint for George and Dave - "think it through" and if you're too dim to do that yourself, get someone else to think it through for you!0

then they do not need child benefit as you say they shoudl provide for themselves
I didn't say they should, I said they do.
The problem with your proposal of it being all ok, is that it unfairly targets people who wish to raise their kids, and do so without state help.
CB has always been a universal benefit. To cut it from a certain section of society, in an extremely unfair and unjust way, to save some costs on administration of the proposals is wrong.
I hate the "think of the kids" line. But can use it properly here. There are major benefits to having a parent bringing up the child, as opposed to loads of kids in childcare all day long.
I'd have no problem if you said scrap it for everyone. But to use the line "use the kids as an excuse to stay at home" is grossly unfair, whatsmore, untrue.0
