okay my friends - having sent my husband and son to middlesborough from Aberdeen to see the Saints get beat we are hoping to now try for a last minute ticket to see the saints finally get promoted at Southampton this weekend. So.......we need the cheapest way to send my husband from Aberdeen to Southampton for Saturday - 12.30 kick off - he could take friday off work if necessary - this is in the hope we can actually get him a ticket for this Saturday - any ideas peeps????

That's quite a journey for a football match, however TBH having a quick look on a journey planner it's over 9 hours one way, so he would have to travel Friday and the last train back on a Saturday is the 14:00 which he will miss.

Maybe train to Inverkeithing using the Daily Record vouchers again for £19 then 747 bus to Edinburgh airport and fly to Southampton airport.

just a quickie to let you know (if you don't already!) that Southern Rail are doing off-peak deals along their south coast routes (from Portsmouth to Brighton and various) to London Victoria for, and from, £3.30 single journeys, booked online and in advance (although I have used one that was good for the next day!) and another separate £3.30 ticket for the return -
you must travel on the train that you nominate but, for many, there is a good day out to be had if you time it right - can work from London (Vic) to the south coast but the times available are more limited - there are also tickets for about a fiver each way, or a mixture of the two, which might help extend the day -
check their site
the deal has a final date but it will be possible to book ahead as far as August if you time it right - could help if there's any sun to be had or exhibitions,museum trips etc.

thank you so much - heard from Southampton football Club yesterday that my husband finally had a ticket!!! woop woop - mega brownie points for me - to be cashed in later!!!
he will now drive to Edinburgh straight from work and catch the evening flight down to Southampton and back up on Sunday.
Aberdeen to Southampton return 450.00 - Edinburgh to Southampton 150.00 ??????????????????

I am having a nightmare trying to find a cheap ticket from Brighton - Blackpool either Weds 9th May after 2pm or Thurs am anytime- as long as I am there before 6pm, returning Friday after 8pm. Cheapest so far is over £100 which would make it cheaper for me to drive tbh but I dont really want to drive that far.
any suggestions welcomed....anyone split this route before?

Have a look at splitting in London - there look to be a few advances that way (you've found the walkon fare) that could bring it down a bit

Southern have a sale on for some of their tickets, so worth looking there for the Brighton/London leg
