Hi, i have just wrote off my car, could you tell me how you got on?, i would like to change the car on the policy as i have wrote off my car too.0

You’d be better reading your policy, some end on a total loss payout, some don’t but it will be in your policy.
If you have selected a policy that does end on a total loss pay out then, depending on the value of the car, your premium and how long your policy has left to run then it might be worth not claiming for your car so your policy remains intact and can be transferred to a replacement car.0 -
Well that's my first year almost up with Insure the Box and renewal time is nigh. I received a nice letter from them stating I had been one of their best drivers based on the information gleaned from the tracking device and they were pleased to offer me their 'best renewal quote' of £1100 - almost double last year's premium. I phoned them up and the pleasant customer service chap seemed embarrassed, but explained that he couldn't adjust the price. He tried to bluster that the renewal was based on the data recorded on their telematics box but when I told them I was one of their 'best' drivers, he couldn't give an answer. I got a deal from Aviva for £380, which was excellent considering my 19 year old daughter is a named driver. I am well aware that initial quotes are often lower to attract new custom, but feel that the difference on this occasion is excessive for what is a fairly restrictive policy and that Insure the Box will price themselves out of the market if my experience is the norm.0

It looks like their software is not designed for renewal customers.
I renewed in early January 2012, and nothing has been updated since. I have over 700 bonus miles that should have been rolled over, but only 65 is showing. I must have done at least 200 miles since renewal, but it still says as soon as my clearbox is fitted, and I have done 60 miles, the portal will be updated.
No bonus miles is showing for December.
The call centre person makes things up like I only get 11 months of bonus miles, and then I point out their Bonus mile page says 100 miles a month, up to 1,200 miles. So he talks to a "supervisor", and yes I should get miles for December, and they don't know what happened. He refuses to send a letter stating my Bonus mile entitlement, but I managed to get an e-mail out of him.
He did admit that there is a general problem with transferring Telematics data to the portal, and that they are "workiing on it".
My theory is, the software was subcontracted, so they don't have ANY programmers to fix the problem.
I am therefore trying to gather as much evidence of my milage as I can, so when they make up numbers I can prove them wrong.0 -
Used this company for my son as he had just passed his test and got his first car. This policy cost £3000 and was about £500 less than others.
BUT it carries a limit of 6000 MILES ONLY.
I stupidly thought 6000 miles would be plenty for a years motoring, WRONG my son used his 6000 miles in 7 months as he loved being on the road so used his car like a teenager would.
So thought we had better check how much to top up miles (extra miles after the included 6000 miles) and almost died.
THEY CHARGE 0.41p PER MILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for top up
they only sell the mileage in minimum amount of 250 miles at £102, so calculate he will need about £1500 worth to end of policy.
Contacted insure the box to plead with them to do a mileage deal and the answer is NO, followed by PAY the extra top up price or we take it from you bank, debit or credit whichever will allow the funds. If the payment for the mileage is uncessful they just cancel the policy and refund none of the years funds paid.
Also if we cancel the ploicy as he used more than a reaonable amount of miles unlikely he will get any money back as well
Dont use them expecting to earn bonus miles either as its almost impossible to earn them.
So only consider if you know you will NOT GO OVER 6000 MILES or you will pay through the nose0 -
Hi There,
Ive just taken out insure the Box insurance as Im a casual driver .
I have to say that their quote was £1000 for mercedes c180 2002 in East London which is by far the cheapest-
Paying by Monthly instalments-£160.00 was first payment and £80.00 a month for 10 monthly Instalments
Swinton quoted me £3000 for renewing with them even though I've got 9 years no claim.
I should be able to stick with the 6000 miles a year limit.
The Box has been fitted now and I actually feel happy that Ive gone with them - If the car gets stolen at least it should be abe to be tracked down
A lot of the other insurers had been scaremongering me that Insurethebox would play with the electrics and I really think this was foolish.
I will keep you posted if I hear of any surprises (Any nasty Instalment Charges ) but happy that I can actually drive in London with affordable insurance.
Ive got Bad Credit and I got accepted so I would recommend them

There you go 2 unbiased reviews LOL
Mr/Mrs 6001 whose son cannot count and doesnt know 6000 miles a year is less than 116 a week or 500miles a month. And think its a scam. Proiced to take advantage of those that cant count maybe?
And Mr/Mrs Honestly i dont work for them.

I don't think any first time driver has the experience from which to gage how many miles they will use per week. 6000 miles in total sounds like a lot to someone with no driving experience. But, granted I will give you the benefit of the doubt in that yes you do get what you pay for and should be more informed before you make a commitment to buy. I think in the first year of driving someone is more eager to get out and express themselves on the road with the liberation they get from this new found freedom in being able to drive.
The one discrepancy I definitely stick by as misleading is that the bonus miles policy is inaccurate and unfair. It misleads potential customers into thinking that they are going to make up for the 6000 miles shortcoming by gaining on bonus miles which as I've read in a few forums, rarely if at all ever comes. I scored 4 out of 5 category's in green for bonus miles and lost out on the times I was driving but I wasn't awarded any out of the potential 100 bonus miles per month. They did say you can be awarded up to 100 which suggests that 4 out of 5 would give you 80 miles right? Wrong. They decide the stipulations and it appears to be selective as others have reported getting 40 miles from different category's. This grey area should be rectified so they are crystal clear on what the bonus miles policy is.
I personally will be moving from insurethebox to Admiral in a few weeks time and i was unhappy at the bonus miles policy so I can't recommend them on that basis. So many people have reported bad experiences that I'm also soured at this treatment of others. Mud sticks.0 -
Its cheaper because it has lots of get out clauses. They did come out cheaper for me the other year, But after reading the terms and conditions i thought it wouldnt be suitable at half the price.
Your moving from the frying pan to the fire? Oh dear. You maybe posting again soon then.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I've gone with Insure the Box for my first car insurance as it was the cheapest, and I doubt I'll go over 6,000 miles this year.
Unfortunately, upon moving house I called up to change my address with them. It's gone up £400! I understand they can do this, but blimey! I have moved from quite a busy road to a quiet and secure area with allocated parking - I don't understand the logic0
