Yes, it was a portrait of 24 hours in the Finance Industry, just not very entertaining when it comes to a 'Movie'....Beginning, Middle, Ending....without the ending! I just wish a little bit more of the 'aftermath' could have been portrayed, if only for 'entertainment' purposes.
Having done a bit of research since watching the film (told you it got me thinking !!) it seems that these things didn't happen in just a 24 hour, but actually over quite a period...
So the film was already distorting facts to portray it as happening in a very short period, presumably to condense it into a tighter more manageable package for the viewer.... or entertaining as you would say.
I loved the way it did not spoon feed the viewer...there was only one references to the year, the technical terminology sounded genuine enough, even the idiots explanation to Irons wasn't overly simplistic....so the fact it left 'the ending' up to us to fill in just felt equally mature.
We all know what we had just witnessed, we all knew the significance of the date.
The ending still hasn't ended, and has been different for everyone.
For some it is their pensions, and investments....
For others it is their jobs, and houses...
I know a family business that went under after 50 years in business, due to bad debt...
One other aspect which I thought brilliantly done was how these people were portrayed (in so many different ways) as being completely separated from 'the rest of the world'.
From their Ivory Tower office block, to their income and lifestyle, them plotting and scheming while the rest of the city slept...
Even burying his dog in the middle of the night.... oblivious to everything. Just like they were completely unconnected to the staff and strippers in the bar, the taxi-driver.....even their own families.
No phone calls to say I'll be late, of "quick tell your brother to sell his shares"....nothing0 -

I can't see why a Q&A session would make a difference, wouldn't the film-makers benefit from such feedback more than the viewers if anything that's more reason why it should be free IMO.
Never had a free Q&A myself but there have already been free screenings of Shame in advance of the release date.
SFF often sell tickets to shows including films. They have been doing it for a long time now.0 -

Polite request number 258
Please could people stop posting codes on the FILM CODE thread that are either:
a) for theatre productions
b) for music events
c) for things that have already been posted over an hour previously...
Thanks again...0 -
Hi all.
Regrettably, I have returned two tickets to see Coriolanus in Sheffield/Cineworld for tonight if any is interested. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -

For those who saw the film, 'Coriolanus' yesterday, did you get it? Man, it was mind numbing. For those who are Shakespearean followers might like this film. I thought I was listening to a foreign film at most times. Nearly half of the people at the cinema were walking out. Not for me I'm afraid. Apart from that the film was well produced with good cinematography. I should have gone to see 'The Artist' again as I saw it on the 13th December and I loved it. Oh well at least I saw The Artist.0
