What can I do about my Mum?(Long. sorry)

Hi Janey -coming in late on this one but reading your post and others puts me in mind of a situation we have with a neighbour here atm.
Briefly - elderly couple - male died suddenly - female in first stages of dementia - not married (been together for about 20 years) BUT he has an undivorced wife and adult son (who has previously conned him out of money, so they were estranged).
Funeral tense as all parties showed up. Now son keeps turning up at the house, taking things that "his dad would want him to have" (as if!!!), looking for his dad's will and the insurance policies - he has rung almost every solicitor in town and even asked us if we have the papers ...... very worrying for my neighbour. She has no idea where they are and doesn't even remember who he is half the time.
We (other neighbours and I) are very concerned and rang Socal Services for advice and they told us they have a vulnerable adults team who deal specifically with a situation where an adult is in danger from someone preying on them. She was assessed within 48 hours, son has been warned off and if he turns up again we have a number to ring and the police will arrest him.
Might help someone to know this service exists, as I didn't.

Is QVC a shopping channel?
The ones I have seen (very few and very occasionally) sell downright junk! I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy anything from them! But obviously people do.
Janey I'm glad you are having the Power of Attorney; this will make things easier for you and will help your mum out as well. Good luck!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Thanks everyone for taking an interest.
Cat cuddles are always nice....:j
Diamonique only fetches peanuts, believe me I've tried.
Today, I stopped Mum from paying £47.85 + postage for 2 PILLOWS:eek:
I'm pretty sure I have broken the link and I will be better than my Mum as regards money. I have done a last minute check on Christmas presents and I only have 2 to buy.
All thanks to MSE and all the great advice from everyone on the various forums.
I am not skint...apart from the £84000 we owe...if you know what I mean.
My food cupbards are full. I have made my mince pies and Christmas puds. Such a long journey since Christmas last year when all I wanted to do was run away.0 -

You, and your dad, are lucky to have neighbours who are concerned about him enough to do this. When my grandad was ill, and came out of hospital, we made sure one of the family went to visit at least once every day. But it was the kindness of his neighbour, who took him a hot meal every night and knocked on his door every morning to make sure he was ok, that meant so much to us all. She also phoned us a couple of times when she knew my grandad was ill, but he wouldn't call anyone because he didn't want a fuss. I hope in the future I'll be blessed with such a kind neighbour.Amazon sellers club - member number 63.
