Remember Ebay is a ruthless monopoly with gross profits of billions of dollars per year which has cynically and utterly selfishly changed it's rules over the years to maximise it's profits and extract more money from consumers like me who use that site. This section of the site is about consumers getting the best deal out of Ebay not Ebay fanboyism. To quote Martin, 'It's about screwing big companies before they screw you'. To paraphrase, 'It's about screwing Ebay before they screw you'.:money:
This section of the site has always been more about protecting ebays profits rather than protecting sellers or buyers.
There may well be some ebay employees posting here, so that could be the reason."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Since ebay is not a charity and has never pretended to be one, why are people so surprised when they try to make a profit?
It's the way they choose to do it that sane people have an issue with.
There's a whole world of differance between using a monopoly (which that clearly are) to profiteer, and just being a successful company making a healthy profit, innit."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Good to have you back , we needed someone to goet back on the 'you are all ebay employees' theory.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Martin encouraged people to take on the banks legally (and actually they lost!) so your argument about being OK to cheat ebay is not relevant.
As for ebay being a monopoly, oh please, such an old argument it is not worth discussing anymore. When there were real competitors , proper ones with big names no one bothered to use them so they gave up. I actually have issues with a high street shop, instead of pushing up their profits by using them and trying to cheat them i shop elsewhere, I would rather pay extra elsewhere, or go without than use that shop. So, I say again if you don't like ebay and their rules why aren't you out on another thread extolling the virtues of a rival site, or are you like a lot of people, you pretend not to like ebay rules but recognise that those very rules are regs are what keep ebay running. So you moan about them and tell everyone to risk their accounts by not following terms and conditions, whilst boosting their profit yourself.
I have issues with some things ebay do, read some of my recent threads. Does that make them evil, no, does that give me the right to cheat them, no. I accept the things that annoy me and work with them.
Since ebay is not a charity and has never pretended to be one, why are people so surprised when they try to make a profit? Gosh, what next..am I supposed to believe that Marks and Spencer tempt me with overpriced food just to make themselves look good or do I accept they want to make a profit.
'Cheating Ebay' - do you work for Ebay!?? Is this for real? This is a moneysaving site. Remember what Martin says this site is about, 'It's about screwing big companies before they screw you'.
This site is full of suggestions on how to get around or break the rules or use loopholes to evade the 'rules' companies try to impose on us. That is why I and millions come here. I don't come here to hear how wonderful these companies who are trying to screw me are. They are trying to get as much of our hard earned money as possible and this site is about making sure they get as little as possible.
I really do wonder if you are suitable to moderate this section when you seem to be in favour of big companies screwing us rather than us screwing them for a change. Talk about Ebay Fanboyism. This is completely bonkers on a moneysaving site.:rotfl:0 -
All Boardguides can be referred to the abuse team if you feel they are not performing their duties correctly. There is an abuse button on my posts just like anyone elses. However I would refer you to the last sentence on my signature " Any views are mine and not the official line of MoneySavingExpert.com "
As an individual seller it does bother me though that new sellers may read some of th eposts here and think that certain actions, like loading p and p are normal acceptable things that everybody does. Then we as a group of people face the fall out when their stars hit rock bottom and they get suspended.
Yes people load their postage, I see it every time i browse. Yes I prefer not to deal with those sellers and that is my choice and no, I do not wish to do it myself as I actually enjoy trading on ebay and sometimes feel it is hard enough keeping an account running to almost perfect standards even without intentionally annoying buyers.
It is a fact, as cna be gathered by the amount of threads on this subject that many, posisbly th emajority of buyers prefer not to deal with sellers that play the rules. Even if they do deal with them they are more likely then to reflect their irritation by leaving poor stars.
New sellers should be aware of that and aware that this isn't just a case of cheating ebay it is a case of seriously affecting the ability to continue trading.
Even if every poster on here agreed that loading p and p was the cleverest idea that anyone ever had, it makes no difference. All that matters is whether people will buy from you and what feedback and stars they leave.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You seem to be reigning back on this post from the more in my view ridiculous things, said in this thread like, like we should not 'break their [Ebays] rules' because it is 'cheating Ebay' and 'they are not a charity' and 'we advocate staying within the rules of any site we use' and comparing moneysaving with 'shoplifting'.
I am not sure if it is Ebay fanboyism or an anxiety that other sellers are gaining an advantage on you by bending the rules to up their profits (and decrease ebays). Looking at the number posts you have made you may know a lot about Ebay rules but don't lose sight of the purpose of this site which is moneysaving - i.e screwing the big companies before they screw us.
I have referred these points to the Abuse team although you have not been abusive. I just think a reminder on whose side this site bats for is needed (not huge monoplies like Ebay for those who are not sure). Don't take it personal but moneysavers and those with moneysaving tips should not be disparaged by the moderator.0 -
Just as a very minor point of correction, again for new people reading. I am not a moderator but an individual poster with certain other abilities. If a full moderator does post they identify themselves by the word MSE on their name, for instance MSE Luke and have a different colour posting box so they can be easily identified. They give proper MSE views and can speak on behalf of the main team, I cannot which is why my posts remain able to be reported.
Should there actually be any proper employees of ebay (which I doubt) posting on here representing ebay they would need to identify themselves to the main team and also make themselves known on threads. Thwey would also be subject to different rules about posting rights. AFAIK there is no one posting from ebay on here. Again if you look on say the mobile phone boards you will see examples of representatives posting on behaf of companies.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you can't win an argument with Soolin in any other way, I suppose you have that option, if it makes you feel better.
Most people here prefer to have an adult debate.
I have raised certain points in other threads, and there are things I don't agree with, but at the end of the day people like Soolin here are very helpful if you need any advice or information, which I'm grateful for.
Soolin spends a lot of time answering questions and offering advice (very good advice!) and deserves more respect, even when you don't agree with something!0 -
As long as P&P is as per the auction and meets both the service and quality needed to protect the items purchased then pay it and stop moaning.
The time to complain is during the auction before you bid. I agree no one likes to be ripped-off but if you don't like the price then don't bid.0 -
