Overcharged for p&p, can i get refund?
marking_bad
Bought a few items, total p&p came to nearly £12, but the actual cost of the postage was £4, assuming the packaging was £1 (they weren't packaged particularly well, just thrown in a jiffy bag), paying £12 for something that cost the seller £4 seems a bit steep.
Is there something I can do here, or just live and learn and try and ask for a deal beforehand next time?

Not much you can do really, as you say ask in advance next.

well firstly, i'd query it - it may be a genuine miscalculation - then if no sensible reply i;d mark em down on p&P and make a note in my comment about service.0

Definitely contact them first & see if they'll refund a large chunk of it. If they won't then reflect it in your p&p stars & feedback. Did they send you just 1 invoice for the lot or individual ones? If individual ones then they should have posted them all separately, I think.0

When something similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago, I contacted the seller and said, that whilst I appreciate that some money should be added for packaging / travel to the Post Office, I wasn't happy about the excessive overcharge..They replied saying sorry and gave me a refund for the difference. It's always worth contacting the seller before leaving the appropriate feedback.0

When i sold some items a while back one person bought a few things and paid all separate postage, came to roughly same as yours but once i had sent the items i refunded the difference and apologised, maybe a quick note to them and ask, there is no harm in it

Really, people shouldn't be charging for transport at all. It makes people look uncompetitive if they live a long way from a PO, particularly if you are selling privately, and it should be properly accounted for in the item costs if the seller is a business. If people live so far from a PO that it costs them £8 to get there, then they really should think twice about selling on eBay as it is not really that practical for them in the first place. I'm lucky that I have a PO in the village, but it costs me £4.30 on the bus to get to the town centre. I regularly go in and out for other business; I can post items at the same time as that (and if the village PO was unavailable I would either not sell at all or work my auctions to fit that timescale) and not feel the need to make my buyers pay for going shoe shopping or for lunch out, or out on my regular role-playing night with my friends. When something similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago, I contacted the seller and said, that whilst I appreciate that some money should be added for packaging / travel to the Post Office, I wasn't happy about the excessive overcharge..They replied saying sorry and gave me a refund for the difference. Plus, if there is an £8 discrepancy, it is possible that they advertised that they would send by a better postal service where they didn't. For that amount I would want a refund or be thinking about leaving a neg, though it is possible I would have found someone else cheaper."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Thanks for the advice, the seller has already agreed the postage was a mistake and has refunded the difference.0

I'm glad your seller was reasonable.

I bought 4 items from a seller last week, they were impulse purchases so I didn't ask about combined p & p first. I sent a note asking for an invoice with combined p & p and the invoice came back with the original 4 x £4 p & p on and a note ignoring my request, congratulating me on winning the auctions, telling me what an excellent deal I got and asking for cheque payment (paypal ws the only listed payment option at the time and this is how I paid).
I can understand that I can't expect a reduction as I knew the p & p before bidding, and if th items are in good condition then I did get a good deal, but I thought their response was very cheeky all the same. To make matters worse, the p & p was for 1st class and a week later the items still havent arrived. :rotfl:0 -

Certainly tells people what buyers think of overcharged postage and why it really isn't worth it."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
