this is when i plug the wireless router into the PC and type int he default gateway its 198.162.1.1 or something then i have a password

I think you misunderstood me , the 192.168.1.4 and 192.168.1.2
in the ipconfig output are they both on the wireless lan section or is one in the ethernet section? OK on the Vista one go to Control, Panel/Network and Sharing and select Manage wireless , and try and connect to your router.
