My table top sale was a flop. Made £18 and had to pay £8 for the tableIt was sooooo quiet, when I've been previously it's heaving and you're jammed in like sardines. Bloomin' typical. So I have 22 snowman soups to drink this winter and my tree is now decorated with ES mints.
Next year I am not sure I shall even bother, just make things to order. I shall not bother with the ES mints again (poor profit margin anyway) or reindeer poop. The Bah Humbugs, Friends Mints, Reindeer food and Xmas dog treats all sold the best.
Didn't sell a single flannel reindeer or sock cupcake. Feeling bit despondant although everyone wasn't selling not just me. Just not sure any of this is worth all the expense and effort
Good luck to those of you who have fairs etc to come.
It was a bit hit an miss all round, with few people doing well. The table next to me sold nothing...so I could have done worse. Mind you, she did spend all her time sitting down behind the table. She was partially hidden by her table contents and didn't interact with "the punters"...so little wonder. She is a good friend, but it wasn't her day today!! The fair was odd...only 9 tables, and straddling the playgroup performance in another room...very strange! I was so busy setting up, wrapping , talking and trying to sell (and succeeding sometimes:D), I didn't manage to see what was on the other tables...so didn't spend a penny!!! (no not that either!!!)
I am going to take a selection of my stuff to work tomorrow to see if anyone there want to buy anything. Just printed off some order forms...here's hoping! Otherwise...loads will be included in all the parcels being sent off on Tuesday!!
I'm a bit downhearted about not selling so much...but I am in profit, just and it has been a great learning experience..not bad for my first time making and selling this type of stuff. DH has been really encouraging...just thankful I didn't make a loss.
Also, I had a whale of a time just making everything...and I have plenty of supplies to get going bright and early in the New Year, though I have nearly run out of double-sided tape..only a couple of metres left, if that!!
Thanks to everyone here...you have all been an inspiration to me...I dropped this thread's name a few times today when asked where I got all the ideas from!!
Right, off to wrap up some of the After Dinner Hints Kebabs...there is a "brillo"-type thing in there, and it stinks...where's my cello???? I think I will wrap them as crackers...I had them in bottle bags today...so room for a brush too...:D..Wonder if I can get them back into the bags after wrapping???
See you later this week, another busy time, I have my last unit to finsh for my IT course...finishing Wednesday. I still have loads of presents to finish and post...and I haven't even thought about my cards!!!!!!
Hey hoh..here's to a productive week ahead

Thanks Bitsy. I scoured the internet and cut templates in waxed paper using my cricut and the Scal programme. I then iron onto the fabric and paint using fabric paints and sponge applicators. Then I hand stitch the ribbon and bells (for the aprons) onto the items. The painting process is time consuming, but I haven't found a faster way to do this (any ideas anyone?)[/QUOTE]
Love your stuff. When you say wax paper, is that the same as freezer paper?0 -

I have had the famous Mr A's curry sauce in a jar which was 4p or something. Not bad sauce either if you add a few bits and pieces to liven it up.

Good idea but i would want new ones. As its for some new gift ideas i dont think its right using jars thats been used before i know im being funny about it but thats just me
If you have a Lakeland near you they are good for smaller jars - I think they're 8oz or something like that? Their website should tell youI bought some last week and some lids too for making Onion Marmelade and maybe something else yet to be decided LOL
Think lids and jars for 12 worked out at about £7... ok - not ultra cheap but not bad for new ones
ETA - £8.48 - ok I was a little out but stillhttp://www.lakeland.co.uk/jam-jars/F/keyword/jar/product/3819_3818

I think the only reason I did so well at my first fete was because it was a school fete, I only had a few adults buying things from my table it was mainly children. Other parents seem a lot more generous than me! I had children coming to my table with 5 and 10 pound notes, I gave my kids £1 each lol.
I have been asked to have a table at a pamper evening the school are having and I am pretty sure that I will be saying no, I can't imagine that I would sell much with no children there!
Kaitlyn took £10 to her xmas fair and brought 8.50 home again. All the little children go in with their teacher for 30 mins before it opens . She bought a lucky jar and a small santa . When the teacher asked her if she wanted anything else she said no not really i like the things my grandma made but she'll make me some for free. lolCross Stitch Challenge Member Number 20

I had a disaster of a fair. £10 for stall, made £10 - so after costings per item and petrol (and time!!!) I was def out of pocket. Only 3 people through the door... shocking! The person really hadn't thought it through when organising and it was painfully awful.
So now I have tonnes of makes left. Luckily (or not so lucky) I have 250 presents to buy and wrap over next 5 days for 2 charity santas grottos this weekend - budget is £3 per child, so they will all be getting £2.50 worth of presents and some reindeer/snowman poop! At least then it wont go to waste.
I am so disheartened by it - I loved making the stuff and it all looked so fab all on the stall - but with 3 people through the door what can you do?
Lessons learned for next year - sticking with school fairs - far better attendedI miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j
