  • Just a reminder for those using magnetic tape for their fridge pegs - you need to stick a piece at the top and bottom otherwise when someone clips a piece of paper etc to it, the peg will just slide down the fridge!!!! I've just re-done mine!!

I am seriously thinking of asking the family to all chip in and get me a die-cutter, I would like one that does the boxes as I make my own fudge, tablet etc and would like something to hold these as well as doing labels etc, I really am clueless and I don't even know if there is such a beast on the market, I am planning to do wedding favours next year as well as I done them as well as all the balloons for my sisters wedding and really loved doing it (maybe it was the praise I got that I loved :rotfl:)

Any advice? I don't mind having to put money to it if the family are all willing to chip in together with hubby :D

My birthday is in March and I am going to go for a Big Shot as it looks a thought it can take so many of the different dies.

Right then mini candy canes - AKA Elf Walking Sticks, working on a poem, what do you think?

    Elf Walking Sticks
Santa's elves who can't walk so well,
    Use these to get around,
But Santa's sent some just for you,
As long as you don't tell!

    Could do with some work!
  • I think that sounds good emma but think the lines need altered about as 2nd and 4th should rhyme. Just moving your words about:

These canes are used by Santas Elves
If they cant walk so well
But Santa has sent some for you
as long as you dont tell.

    Hi Cotton wool katie

'twas my humbug box ..... and it is very fortuitous that I had a ready prepared tutorial on my homepage ..... ........ (we bloggers have to be very careful not to infringe any MSE rules and are not allowed to link directly to our blogs) so I'll transfer it to here

It's quite simple to make, no fancy materials needed - just some brown paper, a brown felt pen and double sided tape - plus some humbugs - Martin would be proud!!!!

    Picture%20063_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

    1_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

Cut a piece of light brown paper/light card 27 cm x 18 cm and draw lines with a thick brown felt tip pen - that will give the stripey humbug effect when the box is finished.

    2_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

Turn the card/paper over and put a line of double sided tape (or glue) along one long and one short edge

    3_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

With striped side facing up roll the paper/card to make a cylinder

    4_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

And then flatten the bottom end.(see below)

    5_thumb%5B10%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

    6_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

To complete the carton/bag squeeze it together in the opposite direction to the bottom of the bag (I hope that makes sense) to form a triangular shape.

    7_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

    8_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

Now, is the time to fill your bag with humbugs.

When bag is filled, glue the two sides together and hold in place with a few clips until well stuck.

All that’s left to do now is decorate it with a tag or label. I’ve just done a bit of mat and layering, with my own handwriting and sprig of holly.

You could put sweets, toys and a motto/joke and make these in Christmassy colours as an alternative to crackers or as a different sort of goodie bag for children’s parties.

can I just check the measurements
    is it definately 27cms x 18 cms ??
I've just made one and it looked very odd very long and thin is that right ???
    I'm thinking not :(
