We originally went for the estate 140 diesel with the auto powershift, their new box is a six speed twin clutch unit without a torque converter so it takes far less power off the engine and the economy is similar to the manual.

For the extra £150 (?) is seemed very good sense for our circumstances.

Thanks for the info. As a matter of interest were there just a few left?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

There were literally just a few left in the country in unpopular colours last Wednesday - this was my original gripe, motabilty have allowed Ford to get us into a 'grabbit while you can' mode.

Pardon my language but I'm bloody carer for my wife trying to make the best of a deteriating position in life.

Come on Motabilty, you've done well in the past - where's my Ford that you started listing 8 days ago at £750?

Hopefully the tablets will soon kick in.

Are motability still giving £200 back if you haven't made an insurance claim? They were when I last changed, and as I was eligible I figured that would be useful towards my advance payment. So I chose a renault with a £250 advance payment, but it actually only cost me £50. Do bear in mind, the £200 came back to me about a month after I had changed the car, so I did have to pay the £250 up front.

Now £250 Good Condition Bonus and paid regardless of any insurance claims. :j

as a matter of interest which model did he go for? Am thinking of a zetec 2.0TDCi 5 door. Would love the automatic version

    Hi,

He has ordered the automatic Mondeo Powershift 2.0 Ecoboost 203bhp in Titanium spec. He testdrove a Zetec one but found the Titanium much better equipped and at the AP of £511 worked out much better value albeit he could only have a choice of a couple of colours. The one he is getting has a few options fitted as well, so he is really pleased with it and cannot wait to get his hands on it.

I'm wondering about this I got my bonus but the DLA letter stated because I hadn't made any claims. When I took the car back I thought it was in really good condition and virtually all the ticks the dealer made were good with about 2 fair, then when he filled in the bottom bit for overall he put fair. I was particularly surprised with him putting this for external as it looked almost brand new given that it was 3 years old, no scratches, bumps, dents.

I think the way the motability scheme is run is unfair, example being someone in January buys a suitable car with nil advanced payment then in the next quarter the same car can cost several hundred pounds up front how can this be a fair scheme, even if the prices where to change only twice a year it would be unfair to a lot of customers but not as many, but these people don't want to know about struggling already customers.

I think often the prices are arranged with the manufacturers, if they want to shift a car the advance payment will be low. About 6 years ago Volvo first joined the Motablity scheme and obviously wanted customers, we got an S60 advance deposit £200. The dealer was so desperate for us to get the car that they actually paid half of the advance payment! I've just checked the Motabilty site and the same car is now £1,999 advance payment!

We had direct experience of this - 3 years ago we ordered a Grand Picasso at £700. A month later it was reduced to nil. We are due to change again shortly but we're hanging fire until next quarter pricing in the hope we may get a better deal. We need a bigger car with three older kids plus big dog and a wheelchair, finding the advance payments at the moment is tricky to say the least.
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

We've normally just had smallish cars and have never paid more than £150 for an advance payment and to be honest that was only because my OH would want a particular car. However my OH's health and mobility have changed and we now need a car that's high so it's easier for OH to get in and it has to be big enough to carry a scooter and wheelchair, plus we also have to have an automatic.

I was shocked at some of the advance payments for a wheelchair/scooter friendly car and then the price goes up again if you need an automatic. Plus there's not as much choice among automatics. In the end OH has decided to go for a Fiat Qubo, it may not be to everyone's taste but it's high, got loads of space in the back, automatic, decent on the fuel and best of all nil advance payment!

Ah, yet another thread revived from the dead. Ok, I'm going to be controversial here but being a Yorkshireman I say it as I see it.

I'm newly 'disabled' having recently lost my right leg and yes, not a below knee amputation, the whole thing. The amount of bickering and carrying on over who should / shouldn't have a blue badge (another thread) and this one over Motability and how much advance payment is fair and whatnot is an absolute joke.

The fact that the Motability scheme exists has made my life liveable, I got a nice Focus for a £299 advance payment which included insurance for my 26 year old son who hasn't yet had his license for a year and all with a whopping £75 excess charge on the insurance should we damage the car, even if at fault. Without my son and the use of the car between us I may aswell just stay in my hospital type bed and suck soup through a straw.

You do have a choice, save that ~£55pw (or whatever it is) and buy your own, at least you can sell it after 3 years and get some of that investment back. I however am happy to lose that monthly payment for the use of a new car safe in the knowledge that come what may I will always be able to get home from anywhere in the UK and indeed Europe (provided I arrange my own breakdown cover there, insurance is covered however).

There are also many, many cars that can be gotten for free. Be realistic, you're not going to get a Range Rover Discovery with zero advance payment in exchange for your HRM payment.

Frankly, it disgusts me the way that Motability gets shot down in flames here given the service offered over the price that it would actually cost us to get the same privately. There's no way on this planet that I could get the car I have with the insurance package extended to my son being able to drive it and without him being able to drive it, the car would be of no use to me.

It makes me ashamed to be disabled with attitudes like the above. Ultimately, if you don't like the scheme then keep your money and buy your own and !!!!!!!

    Sorry, rant over.
