  • Has anyone else had dealings with Groupon??
So far, in my experience...if a deal looks to be too good to be true, it probably is!

    SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
Groupon are a scam!! They are offering IPL laser hair removalyesterday and today the same deal, 6 sessions for £99 instead of £350, thats £251 saving 72% discount. WRONG!!! I could have got this deal even if Groupon didn’t offer this on their site and sometime ago and even TODAY! Isn't huge savings and exclusive deals what Groupons and KGB about?????

Having researched the company, EUROLASE, offering it, I came across a GUMTREE AD, from EUROLASE offering the same!! So how on earth can Groupon say they are giving us the customer a discount when there’s no discount there????? It’s a scam!!!!! I even called the company and some woman who can’t even speak clear and concise english was happy to offer me the deal on Gumtree!!!! Groupon are not saving us money with back street companies like EUROLASE!!!!!!!! Why would any company post an AD on Gumtree unless its a back street one?!?!? This has definitely opened my eyes and I will definitely be doing my research before I buy any offers!!!

Oh and 1 last thing this same company offered the same deal Groupon has at the moment for £59 with KGB last week, Yet AGAIN it wasn’t a 80% or 90% discount they were saying because I could have got it for £99!!!! They are all scammers!!!!!!
IF THIS ISN’T A SCAM THEN WHAT ELSE IS IT?????????

I have only just joined Groupon and bought a Lovefilm voucher for one month, then I did what I should have done first and read the reviews. There is a fair bit of fine print - when the offer runs out, you start paying the full subscription price but more importantly, it's hard to cancel, (some people are still paying months after leaving) so I've decided it's more trouble than it's worth and not to use the voucher (it was only £4). I have groupon's address and will write to them cancelling, but I'm a bit confused - if I don't use the voucher do I still have to cancel with Lovefim? I think not, but I don't want to get caught out. Would appreciate any help

If you signed up with Lovefilm then yes you need to cancel with them. If you just bought the voucher and have not yet used it to sign up with Lovefilm then no - as Lovefilm won't have your payment details. When vouchers are unused Groupon just keeps all the money, when they are used Groupon keeps about half the money and gives the other half to the company offering the 'deal'. So whatever happens Groupon wins.

By the way, you paying them £4 (via Groupon) for a month is a bit of a scam - if you sign up to Lovefilm via a cashback site like topcashback they (Lovefilm) will effectively pay you (£12) to have a months free trial and not the other way around. :D

Plus there are always free trial offers floating around anyway - no need to buy a voucher for one.

By the way, you paying them £4 (via Groupon) for a month is a bit of a scam.

Not a scam at all really - £4 for 3 months is an excellent deal (which is what the recent deal offered - normally £6 for 3 months on Groupon which is still good value at £2 per month).

Hi everyone, regarding our LOVEFiLM deal you simply need to opt-out before your subscription runs out to avoid becoming a paying customer. At the end of offer period, you will automatically become a paying member on the relevant chosen package unless you cancel your subscription and return any of our discs in your possession BEFORE the end of that period. We're sorry for any confusion and we hope you enjoy your LOVEFiLM purchase! Our "Fine Print" on the deal always contains any important terms and conditions. Please email sm.support@groupon.co.uk if you need any further assistance at all. Thanks, Groupon UK

A friend of mine recently bought a caravan holidays weekend .When she tried to book it they asked her if she was interested in buying a caravan from them and when she said no they told her she could not book then. She insisted this wasn't right and spoke to someone else who after a lot of discussion agree to try to book and they would let her know if it was available within a week.

She was not happy and so got in touch with Groupon and they did give her the money back.
She booked elsewhere and got a better deal anyway in the end.
When she told me all this I looked it up on Groupon and nowhere did it say that you had to be interested in buying a caravan.

Something strange definitely going on here, both Groupon and the companies they deal with need to get their facts straight with each other and not mislead people.

Well no, not if it's for 3 months but the person who posted said it was for a month - "bought a Lovefilm voucher for one month" so my reply was based on that as completely free one month trials are readily available with cashback paid to you as well.

I've got along very well with Groupon, and with Slurp (among others) as a company doing deals through them. The main thing is to check the small print, and ask questions if you are uncertain. Communications (with ether party) generally solve the problems, and Groupon are prompt with the refunds if you're not happy.

Always make sure that the deal is good value, and that it is what you actually want. MSErs are used to these basic questions by now.
