Groupon....Great deals or scam?

  • Today I am furious with Groupon!
In August I took up what looked to be a really good Groupon deal to have both my carpets and furniture steam-cleaned. The wording of the deal said "Carpet cleaning in three rooms (£35) or Three rooms and a Three piece suite (£49) so naturally, for the extra £14, I took the latter, so that I could get my three carpets and my soft furniture cleaned all at once............
BUT.........Today (had to wait ages as it was such a popular deal) the cleaners turned up and only did the carpets! They insist that the deal was only for carpets and not for upholstery, and that the error is entirely Groupon's and not theirs.
So I have emailed Groupon, eight hours ago, but have yet to hear back.
What's making me so cross is that once we knew how long we had got to wait for the appointment, we decided to scrape off the wallpaper, sand the walls, and generally made a fair bit of mess in the lounge. Although we covered the floor and the suite with dust sheets, obviously some dust will have leaked into the furniture, but we felt it wouldn't matter too badly if it was being steam-cleaned soon. If only we had known it wasn't going to be steam-cleaned at all...!
Groupon at the very least owe us £14, which would only be fair, given that we didn't get the added extra that we paid for, but that £14 will go nowhere near to getting us someone else to steam-clean the suite! I am REALLY cross about this, and the company who did the work seem unconcerned and just keep blaming Groupon.

Sorry to hear so many of you having poor deals. I must have been lucky with my choices so far. The photo book last year was a real good find as was the Kurt Muller £40 voucher last week. Have used groupon for meals out, falconry and I discovered a good spa nearby that does it's own offers. I had problems with one voucher but that was resolved very quickly. I have never spent more than £20 on a deal in case there was a problem.
Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

  • Hi, does anyone have an actual telephone number for groupon. I purchased two watchbots for 94.00 over a month ago. Said two to four weeks delivery, but nothing so far and no communication. Emailed the company on their web page, no answer. Emailed groupon a week ago, no answer. Emailed again today. Sigh.

I have used Groupon vouchers several times. Most of the times the service was really good and the deal was exactly as described.
Recently though I bought one for vibrogym sessions which didn't turn out exactly as expected . There is an external instructor that does this sessions and getting in touch with her was just impossible. And even if you do, then booking an actual appointment was a nightmare.
Overall I think that before getting a voucher from Groupon you should look into the business offering, because that's what it all comes down to.

Hey did anyone buy the £40 for £200 towards the muubaa leather jacket? I bought the voucher, and had already looked on the website to see which one I wanted. The next day that I had bought it, the jacket that I wanted was gone (it was £210) and when I emailed they said that they wouldn't be getting more in stock, and they'll be getting no more stock will Spring :(

Now I don't know what to do, should I order the cheapest jacket that's still on before they all sell out due to the voucher or wait? This is my first time using groupon, or the company, and hearing all the groupon horror stories I'm a bit nervous!:o

Help purchased a voucher through Groupon for bean bag from Infurn. Still not received it. Cant get hold of anyone to sort. Phones keep going to answer machine which is then full so cant leave a message. Who should sort this? and how do I get my money back
  • Anyone having problems go onto Groupon UK facebook page and complain their - you have to click on the 'everyone' tab on the top right though otherwise you just see Groupons own links. Lots of people complaining there - took me ages but eventually got my refund. HTH

I just got through to them on 02035 100 410 almost instantly - I didn't expect that ! Now waiting to see if they refund my money as promised. Unusually the guy gave me his FULL name and a call reference number in case I need to chase it up.

Good luck to all those in similar circumstances.
  • I`ve only ever used Groupon for haircuts, meals, spa days etc and have never had a problem - wouldn`t even know how to get in touch with them as I never had to!

On the other side, the places I visited seem to nearly always complain about the quality of trade groupons have brought them , i.e sold too many and struggled to cope with demand/people were cheeky and tried all sorts/money we got weren`t worth our while in the end.

I don`t know whether staff do this to get tips ? As it seems bad practice to be moaning to the very groupon [STRIKE]addict[/STRIKE] fan in front of them :D

Either way, me a happy bunny having got some good deals out of them !
