Can I just clarify; If I was to buy half a dozen jars of cream from the regular brochure at say £4 = £24 from AVON to give as incentives to new customers - the cost to me, on HOV would be £18. That £18 has now become an expense and not taxable profit?
if you reinvest profit into your business, then you don't pay tax on it. I am right aren't I? Thats how we calculate our business - often any profit is ploughed back in as further investment.
Yes if they're posting on connects giving advice they ought to be giving better advice - but then as A says, we can't give that much advice anyway - I'll tell reps if they already work that they can fill a form in to avoid paying NI again, and that it won't affect their full time employment - as I know that from my own experience, and that they can claim for various things - but I always say this is my own experience or opinion I'm not qualified in tax!
But yes, if you purchase products to give customers as free gifts, we won't need to pay tax, we didn't earn anything buying them from avon and they obviously cost us so that would be a "cost". How I do it, is highlight on my invoice anything purchased for giving to customers etc so that I know I didn't earn anything from them when it comes to sorting out my tax return.Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0 -

I've got 5 days left of campaign 18 and so far i'm not doing very well, have only got 2 orders so far and with something ive ordered and brochures etc im at £45, so only need like £30 odd to get to £78, can I order something to get it upto £78 and then send it back after?
Yep - as returns aren't taken into account for your MOV/HOV then its not a problem - obviously not ideal, but it will mean that you earn something from the orders that you did get.Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0 -

Thanks, I can remember my SL saying about it when I signed up but just wanted to double check on here! obviously i know its not ideal but hopefully I wont have to do but its only if i need to x0 -
You'll probably find you get enough orders now so you won't need to order anything0

This is a reason I don't bother with Avon Connects, the misinformation!
That is why on the first post of this thread, as copied from the original poster who created the Avon Hints and Tips thread, is the information about self employment and what you should do to get registered.
People mistakenly think Avon will not tell the tax man that they are registered with Avon as Independent Representatives/Sales Leaders, etc.
I have heard that when your earnings reach over the £1000 mark, they automatically have to tell the Tax man, that you have started earning over £1000.
Obviously this does not take into account the cost of books, petrol, other expenses.
But I would say if in doubt, call your local HRMC office and deal with them directly, rather than reading a forum of non experienced accountants!0 -

I got a call yesterday from a lady I work with as a volunteer, she has an Avon order for me! That is the first time she has ever requested a book from me. She said she looked through it and found lots of little things that she liked.
My friend who told me she wouldn't do Avon as it is too much hard work for too little return, she does Mini IQ books, said her mum told her Avon sell this cape she wants for her little girl, I said yes, we do girls stuff, she took a book as she has never looked at one for years....
so a bit of networking, a bit of have you seen a book recently!? take a look... and it could be a few months later, but you will start getting orders.0 -
Good morning
Just a quick question about SSS. I have a few customers who have asked about the one which is an insect repellant, I managed to get a couple that were in a bottle with a blue label, a while back, but that was through ebay as the customer needed them by the end of the week. I've just had a call from the 2nd customer asking if I can find out how much it is to buy now and having looked in c18 there is one with a pink label. Is that the same? If so its on the 5 for £5 deal which is great!
Not sure if the different colour labels mean anything though? So they all repel insects?0 -
There is a post about the dry oil spray and its various uses on page one of this thread. It doesn't state that one has the benefits and the other doesn't. I am going to buy some on the 5 for £5 offer and use them in future iykwim?! It only shows the pink one, but the blue one is on offer in c17 at £1.99 anyway. HTH :A
** Corrected ** Post states only the blue one has insect repellant qualities ( Thanks Aureol - not sure how I missed that bit :embarasse )
So C17 it is if you want itStill looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0 -
its only the one with the blue/green label that has insect repelling properties - its not in C18 as far as I can see, but it'll be back in soon (as missminx says you can back order from C17 at the moment).Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0
