  • I'm donating a wyo gift basket for a charity raffle, was just wondering whether to put a business card in with it or is that really cheeky?
I suppose it wouldnt be a good idea really cos the person who wins it might give it to someone for a gift. Hmmmm?

Also thought I'd give you a giggle, I made it quite clear I'd be offering a little draw for my customers to win a basket if they spent over £20 this campaign... Well I've had 2 blinking order! hahaha Thats pretty good odds for my customers eh? ;) dont know how to go about doing a draw with such a small amount of people to pick from? What would you do?!!
  • Whenever I have been involved in charity raffles, most people have attached a business card, I would just sellotape it to the cellophane and then they have the option to remove it if they are going to give it as a gift.

Well, you could be really mean and tell them both someone else has won, or be honest and get someone in the family to draw a piece of paper from 2 pieces with their name on, from a bowl or something.

I only had 5 for my raffle on Monday so did the draw anyway, the lady was extremely happy! And yesterday I had none. I have done these prize draws before, the first time was a gift that had cost me £6! never doing that again! So from now on, make sure the givewaway for my customers is not too expensive!

yes I know the feeling - this is my worst campaign so far, really thought it'd be the best one as people are thinking about Christmas, hence offering a good gift. Hmmm. Still 4 days left to get orders so you never know!
  • With only two it is tricky. I'd be inclined to allocate them two completely random numbers - let's say the one with the higher order value is No. 57 and the lower order is No. 74, then ask someone randomly to tell you which of the two numbers is the winner.

(Alternatively, call the one with the lower door number the winner. There you go, job done!) :D

Whoop c18 is looking great, only took orders out this week, and delivered books today to those with no order. Already a lady at work who shows brochures to her nan, mum and now sister has give me £43 order altogether, plus had a £3 order from a new customer, and someone who I only gave a book to this morning has sent me her order for £59!!! Well pleased :)

Does anyone have a book from 2008? I have a customer that hasn't ordered since then, wants some products, but can't find them in the current books. She wants to know if they have been discontinued or just repackaged.

Unfortunately not, but what type of product(s) was it that she was after? Might be able to work it out from there.

There is a discussion about 'TAX' over on connects which is irritating me some. I wonder if Aureol or another savvy rep can explain something to me?

According to some over there, you are taxed on what you 'earn' from AVON in accordance with the invoice you receive. There is the AVON price and the 'you earn' price. Now correct me if I'm wrong but the difference between the two only comes into question if you actually charge the recommended price. In effect we are taxed on 'profit' not on what the discount is.

I'm getting very cross with some of the answers - not because I want to avoid paying tax (if only) - I have paid tax for some 35 years and been self employed for the last three.
Now if for example I order stationery from Viking at a discounted rate - I don't consider this as monies earned. I certainly don't reap any benefits from discounted advertising and I doubt my advertisers declare the 'discount' to the taxman.

Or is it different for AVON reps? Am I missing something? A discount is not profit. Profit is the difference between items you have purchased and what they have sold for. We could buy gifts for all our customers - how on earth can we be taxed for that?

You're absolutely right - obviously some people posting on connects don't understand what being "self employed" and paying tax actually entails. Of course we only pay tax on our profits (how we make from selling goods to our customers, after all costs are taken into account). They are obviously not claiming for the costs they can claim for - and just using the avon invoice and nothing else. Which means they'll be paying more than they need to!
