On the other hand, perhaps throwing yourself on the mercy of the customers may help rather than trying to supply an alternative off the high street.

Must admit I was hugely impressed with these baskets and the contents. Really think the customers are still going to want them whether the basket has arrived or not. You get a lot for your money. And the items are heavy. Really heavy. No way can I see anyone finding an alternative metal basket on the high street for a couple of pounds. And the gift wrap etc. comes with the basket.

I'm really pushing these as they are the best value item that avon has offered for absolutely months. Customer can return if they like but reckon when they see what they'll get then they will want to keep. I am not offering all of these items for £6!!

    Hi TNCL,
It sounds to me (and I am quite new to Avon myself) that this is a case of either over exposure to Avon, or (and perhaps more likely) an unreliable representitive - so when people have perhaps made an initial order, they might not have been happy with the service they received. What does everyone else think?

    My advice would be...
    - Don't kill yourself by going out so much - every other day is enough!
    - Your time is better spent with some tactical marketing
    - Package the brochures up well
    - Encourage sales with some friendly flyers :D

For example I always carry some printed notes if they haven't left the brochure out for me, a "new rep" note to introduce yourself; a quick "guide to ordering" for people who are unsure and a monthly newsletter.
ASK IF YOU WOULD LIKE THESE EMAILING!

    - I keep a spreadsheet of all the homes I visit (take a jotter out with you)
    - make a note of people who loose brochures, have no interest and also those who are more likely to order.
    - I am also canvassing for one-off Christmas orders with a friendly note to those people who might just want to see one brochure for crimbo gifts - and not be bothered again! (Men, for example) :rotfl:

Good luck and donlt give up just yet, at least you have a really good area to canvas. They just need to know that you are friendly and reliable.

Thank you so much for your reply J_pink. I really do not want to give up as I have actually enjoyed getting out of the house. It's just that I can't even see me making MOV at the moment and have to think about the £7.50 that I need to pay for the first two months and also new brochures!

We had a rep a few months ago and it seems that she never bothered to pick up brochures or orders so this has maybe been part of the reason.

My SL also gave me an order that she had picked up but it had no name or address on for the customer. I have posted brochures to all the houses in that road and they have been left out that day and it seems they have not even been looked at all.

Another road that she had 3 orders from have also left their books out. I still have quite a few houses to get round and I think I need to do what you have suggested and include a newsletter or something. I would be really grateful for any ideas of what you put in yours.

Thanks so much for your help :T

    TNCL1975,

Are you going back the same day to pick up the brochures? if so, how do you know they have been 'left out' vs. just the person not even having come home yet to take in the book? I always go back for mine the day after i drop them off.

You might consider knocking on doors late one Saturday afternoon. That gives you a lot of good info. You can see how people react to 'the avon lady', whether they are unsure, really NOT interested, or pleased. I have been able to save a lot of time that way. I know exactly which houses to really not bother with. :D

TNCL1975, sorry, haven't been around to reply as lost my engagement ring and am still devastated. However have now told DH who is insistent that we will find it. :)

Ok, as you have said there has been at least one Rep previously who has turned out to be unreliable. People are probably waiting to see if you keep coming back and if they can rely on you, as they may think you are the same Rep as before.

MarsdenCuckoo, who is away on holiday at the mo, always suggest door knocking first. She says stand with your Avon book at chest level, so they can see it, a big smile on your face and engage with the person at the door. That way you can find out if they are interested in Avon, but don't want a book right now, never want an avon book, or already have a rep. Plus with them talking you directly, they may be more inclined to buy as they will see the face behind the book and you can tell them a bit about yourself.

I understand you are worried about not making MoV but having to pay £7.50 fee, etc.

Did you say you have little ones? If so, do they go to preschool, playgroups, school, etc? Take a few books along and show them to other mums when collecting Little ones, or with playgroup ask the Team Leader to introduce you and let you show a few books while they are there.

Do you go anywhere with other mums? Take books with you and talk to them. If you are on netmums.com, do an ad on there. Especially with Christmas coming up. A lot of people don't know about the 90 day guarantee. Explain that to them, how they can buy stuff at Boots, don't like it, can't take it back.Avon isn't like that. That is a major selling point for me.

Think about all the places you go to, Drs, Health visitors, etc. Take a book and ask the Receptionists, if they already have an avon rep? If not, would they like to look at your book?

Can you DH take a book to work? Family members take books for you? Friends take books for you?

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Oh and do an advert in your local newsagents, don't pay more than £1 a week though! Saying you are a local rep if anyone is interested in seeing a book to contact you. And if you have a Tescos, they let you advertise for free.
  • Aureol - I hope you find your ring soon. I know I would be devastated if I lost mine.

Lozza - Dont worry about crying on and off. As you said it goods as you are finally letting yourself grieve. Crying is good for you xx

Well I have collected from one of my new street this weekend. Have to go back on Monday as a couple of people wanted some extra time but out of 30 houses I have 3 orders which I didnt think was too bad. Does anyone know what Avons 'target' is. IE 1 order per 10 houses.

Also the person who has the spread sheet that they record all their orders on ( cant remember who said it) please could you send me a copy. Really need to get organised now I have more territory.

C17 is due in on Tuesday hoping I do at lest £277 worth of orders as thats all I need to get into Presidents club :j

Can see your point Moneymaker, they are brilliant value, but I'd certainly never pay full price for something that had a piece missing and wouldn't expect customers to either? Don't know what the best approach is.....

Shall just see what happens I think - in all fairness I only have two "customers" - the other is my mum and I have two on order for presents for myself - so can wing these.

What is everyone doing about offering these going forwards? Putting a note in the brochure to explain the problem or just keeping schtum?

You never know, Avon might pull something out of the bag.........yeah right!:rotfl:

Got to deliver items and brochures today. Also 2 people have ordered the pens in the case with the cat on which is out of stock. Grr Avon shouldn't let things go out of stock.

Edit: which campaign are the prize draw cards supposed to be distributed? Thanks.
