In 92 hrh saw a wet place,
With vehicles and vocals and weights you must trace.

I think we are ALL agreed that this refers to Carsington Water

You're soon to discover a great source of pain,

and I think we are pretty confident that this line refers to the Hurt Arms at Ambergate, source of Carsington Water from the river Derwent

    However, does:

A fine way to travel, but what is it's name?

refer to Dragons or Toads or something else? personally I prefer dragons, so following on from that I did some digging... and this is where it starts to get tenuous...

This creature will show you a street in the pete,

there is a song by Pete Townshend called "Street in the City"
The City, to me, can only mean London.

The city of London's dragon marks where London the Strand in the City of Westminster finishes and The City of London at Fleet Street begins.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_London#Boundary

I'm still not sure on my link to Pete, but the creature (dragon) is certainly showing a street - Fleet Street

Continue the rhyme to find somewhere to meet.
Continuing the word rhyme I get the Rhymers' Club who met in the Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street

But then the trail goes cold again.

brain turning to mush - AGAIN

    So do I.

I still don't feel that it clicks from there though.

I think that once we have found the correct meeting place, the C R and P room will be obvious as a room in the hotel, quaker meeting room or whatever it is. I still keep looking for anagrams.

My feeling is that dragon rather than toad is correct as the balloon company fits the fine way to travel clue best imo. You also need to remember that cashhunt is funded by businesses paying to be included in the clues so you get led onto their website, and the Dragon Balloon Flights Company is the sort of small business that you usually get (e.g. last hunt it was the Windmill Restaurant (grrr why isn't the solution up yet?) or The Drawing Room art gallery in August)

There's some great ideas and ways of looking at things been posted though, I'll try and have another go later on, need coffee first

    :)

eta - just realised, I haven't actually looked properly on their website, of course, doh!
They've got google maps of all their launch sites but I can't see any that matches 'pete', might be being dense though, as I said need coffee!

As the clue says the creature will "show you", perhaps we ought to play close attention to the flight paths of the balloon. I did peruse the site and saw that they often went over some of the places we have discussed. Anyway, have to start work now. Will look later.

Chatsworth House/grounds is used to land sometimes. I looked before at the house on another line of search. Just mentioning it as it offers a lot of rooms/people links etc ... but I have nothing particular as to its use.:o

I'm not sure about the link either but the Fleet street dragon could also take you to the Old !!!! (male chicken! [rolleyes]) Tavern

    http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/speel/london/strand.htm
...Old !!!! Tavern, again somewhat of the 17th Century, and with 19th Century interest to these pages in its association with Tennyson, who composed poetry about it.
hmm except it's website isn't working!

It has 3 function rooms but struggling to find out their names if they have one

nah think it's a dead end same as the Cheshire Cheese :(
  • Continue the rhyme to find somewhere to meet.

I tried the surname/family Rhymes and came to Roger de Rames (different spelling same family crest) who held land in the manor of metinges. (I thought this was good because he was in the doomsday book and they seem to like this for clues.) When I looked in the doomsday book he held land in Charlton and Stanmore.
Stanmore with stan meaning stone/stony which is where the name Pete/Peter comes from.
No dragon or creature there though.......I think i'm going the wrong way.

According to this article Chester-le-Street's council has a dragon in it's logo which relates to two local myths, and these are said to have inspired Lewis Carroll's poem The Jabberwocky. I can't see how Chester-le-Street fits with The Pete though and I'm not getting anywhere with the Jabberwocky.

Not really got any further, but on looking at the link for Chatsworth House above, I have found another competition to post on MSE for photos of Chatsworth. That pleased me, because I don't find many comps not posted.

I've been thinking about a street in the pete. We've been looking at places starting with Pete, such as Petersfield or Peterborough, but it could be somewhere with pete in the middle, such as Lampeter. Lampeter is in Wales. The symbol for Wales is the Welsh Dragon. I googled for a Welsh translation of Dragon and came up with Y Ddraig Goch. I then searched on Google Maps for "Y Ddraig Goch street" and it came up with somewhere in Lampeter. Don't know if this is any use. On Google Maps, it shows a Cae Hir Gardens and Tea Rooms. I have had a look at their website, but can't find a CR and P room, so another dead end.

hi, totally new to this so no idea if this is the right idea or not. I followed the route of dragon agreeing with carsington and the hurt arms.
I found a dragon boat festival held in peterbrough have nothing to do with street though so have the feeling i have gone wrong somewhere.

the next line "continue with the rhyme and find somewhere to meet"

if you continue down the river Nene where the boat festival is held you come to meeting point of two rivers which is called pope's corner (and pope was a poet so i'm hopeing i might have something here)

plus cr and p would also fit with that but now i'm stuck.
