Just wandering if anyone has any tips for drying clothes indoors without heating now it's cold? My towel is now wet every morning from the previous day's shower, and I am dreading the next bedding wash due this weekend, as we already have a 48 hour drying time as a minimum and only one set of bedding! I might just give in to radiators for the bedding, but would be interested if there s anything I can do to help the day to day stuff.

No but I would really like that question answered myself, if you don't get many replies from here, maybe its wroth starting a separate thread for advise?

I hate drying clothes in the winter, they start to smell of damp because they don't dry quick enough. :(

I saw a de-humidifier in a charity shop a few weeks back and really wish I had got it, but I didn't have the £30 at the time. I think they are suppose to help.

Dehumid's do help and very effective but mine was a loan and an industrial sized one. I've no experience of smaller/cheaper ones.

I put our heating on this morning as the house smelt cold and a bit damp. I can do cold but that cold 'smell' makes me worry about condensation etc so it went on.

I think 18 is our bench mark. The house if fine now and won't be heated at all today.

*bet you all think I've cracked talking about a cold smell :rotfl:

I have those over the door hooks like this one:

I just hang the wet towels straight onto that on the back of the bathroom door and then open the window slightly. The towels dont end up smooth and soft, but they do dry.
Either that or i put them in the TD..the TD is a necessary in my house, and is well worth it. I just dont out every thing in there, just what wont fit anywhere else.

Does anyone know where I can get one of the room temperature card things?

  • I gave in last night. When I'm wearing the fleecy PJs, a sheet and a duvet and I'm still cold, the heating goes on. I put the storage heater in the spare room and living room (not the bedroom) to keep warm air circulating, and to dry the laundry in the back room. It was the first time since May that clothes hung up to dry over night were still damp in the morning, so the heater has to come into play, or I'm back to using the tumble dryer.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I don't think they are very effective (my dad has one), you would be better off buying a digital thermometer, you can pick one up for a few quid.

    Thanks. I'll get one later.
