  • Going off topic slightly but thinking of the washing problem mentioned earlier... I noticed this is on special offer from JML:

    Can't vouch for it though.
    :hello:
  • Ta for all your suggestions in answer to my clothes drying conundrum, unfortunately I am not sure any of them work for our situation - no curtain rails, doors too thin for over door hangers (the ones I have tried have chipped paint from the frame) and no additional funds for a dehumidifier right now.

I shall stick to just heating the big radiators with bedding on them and leaving the clothes under the open skylight, as that has kept the damp cold smell (fuddle - totally get what you mean!) at bay. We move soon, so hopefully will have some different options to trial in the house!
  • Hi Folks, heating not on yet. Although I did have the gas fire on for an hour last night. I found an interesting article about central heating, apparently 1st October is Central Heating Day!!!

Anyway the article is from 2009, but definitely worth a look.

Kids are home from school and football club and the heating is still off. I cant work out if the temp has warmed up or if i am hot from running about all over the place! :D

I am volunteering at Cub Scouts tonight, as my youngest son goes, so the heating will stay off then too (7pm-9pm).
  • I had an hour's heating last night. I think tonight I will use the hot water bottle and snuggled up with Junoir for warmth. It worked last night!

I want to get a halogen heating lamp this year. I saw one highly rated in the Argos catalog as an energy saver. I want to use it during theday when I'm alone at home and I don't want to heat up the entire house to get a bit of warmth.

I dry clothes indoors. I dry them over the radiators and the bedding I drape them over the doors. Sometimes I've had to finish clothes off by hitting them with a hot iron and using nicely scented ironing water.

Just wandering if anyone has any tips for drying clothes indoors without heating now it's cold? My towel is now wet every morning from the previous day's shower, and I am dreading the next bedding wash due this weekend, as we already have a 48 hour drying time as a minimum and only one set of bedding! I might just give in to radiators for the bedding, but would be interested if there s anything I can do to help the day to day stuff.

I know it wouldn't work for everyone, but I pass a launderette on the way to work. I sometimes drop a wet load of washing off, they dry it in huge dryers and I pick it up on the way home. It costs £1 and saves loads of wet washing hung around the house. Comes back dry and folded, but not ironed. Thinking about it, I should do it more often , instead of not been organised on work mornings and using radiators on a weekend...

  • Well my heating is very much on.

I'm at home, full of a head-cold, and I truly hate being cold in my house!

I bought some of that sticky draught tape stuff that you stick around doorframes and windows to stop draughts but haven't got the gumption to actually stick it on yet...

I don't have any heating but the stove is lit for the first time since May! Unfortunately, this means all the windows are open while it burns off all the black lead polish I put on...

Do you have an airing cupboard? I put our damp towels on hangers and hang them over the slats. I do the same with other small items such as underwear and t shirts as well.
