I'm embarrassed to say I'm in Kent..... a soft southerner! But I am at the top of a hill where the temperature is always around 3 or 4 degrees lower than the bottom of the hill.
We get really bad snow in winter when surrounding areas are clear. My boss never used to believe me when I rang to say I was snowed in. I took him photos on the phone camera in the end. Ha Ha.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Heating off again here in Herts even though I am still not feeling that well. Mind you, took my two year old grandson out for a walk in the village, pushing him in his pushchair back up the hill soon warmed me up! Not sure what it's done for my back though, nor my breathing problems. Still, the do say exercise is good for you.0

Still off here. I'm hoping we can keep it off for quite some time - well into October anyway. The DCs (and I) have loads of jumpers that I've just pulled out of the "winter clothing boxes" so if they get cold, the official line from me will be "put on a jumper" followed by "put on some socks/slippers."
I have put their extra fleece on their beds as well as a crocheted blanket that is quite thick on each bed. That should keep them pretty warm. As the weather gets colder, they have long johns and long sleeve shirts to layer under their pyjamas, so that will make a huge difference as well.
This is our first winter on pre-payment meters for gas and electric, so I'm nervous about how it will go - I want to be as sparing as possible to keep the cost down. It's a huge change from the last years where we just whacked on the heater and then stressed when we got a huge fuel bill a few months later. At least I won't have to worry about that!!MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
If it helps anyone, I can thoroughly recommend this heater...cheap to run and gives out a good bit of heat..we turned out bedroom radiator right down when we got this.
We found that one end of the room was cold and damp in the winter and this little heater warms the room nicely for us and gets rid of that damp feeling.

Anyone think this would be good for a conservatory in the winter, not had a conservatory before, it has no heating in it, and don't know if it will get damp and horrid. I won't really be using the room I don't suppose but want to keep damp away. Other option is to just open the doors to the lounge I guess and let some of that heat filter through.
I have had the heating on a bit. Not because I have really needed it, more to test the heating out as a new place. I should stop or I won't feel the benefit in the winter, and think I may get a shock this year as now on the freezing northumberland coast and not tucked into a valley inland.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Not sure about that heater but my grandparents had an oil heater in their conservatory when they had one of those plastic roofs (changed to a solid roof now) and it was a bit chilly in there still but never got damp or mouldy.0 -

It's definitely warming up here in Cornwall.
Triggles- Re the PPmeter. I have a PP meter and haven't actually found it to cost more than normal ones. I pay £40 on it per month throughout the year and that sees me through the month easily.0 -

I used to be on pre-payment for gas (still am for electric). In some ways I preferred it as I didn't need to put very much money on in summer when I spent more on going out etc. And in winter when you naturally stay at home more I put more money on the gas. I changed to monthly payments on gas cause I am afraid it got to the stage where I couldn't afford the large bills in winter so went on direct debit when the payment is the same each month. Being on pre-payment does take away the worry of the big bills and I have not ruled out going back to it but being more disciplined and making sure I put money into it during the summer months as well.0 -
The last couple of nights we have had the heating on for just an hour to take the chill off before going to bed.
It's definitely feeling a little autumnal in the mornings here in Bristol now.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set
