Is your heating ON or OFF?

I went into Durham City around 6.20pm. Wearing a cheap heavy coat(Charity Shop for 99p)woolly hat, gloves, scarf and thermals/thermal socks.
Got into the concert for 7.30pm. Had a portion of chips and a couple of buns I had with me with watercress, ham, tomato and pease pudding before going in, I have found a shelterd spot where there is a seat I can sit.
It was warm in the theatre that I was able to take the coat and...when I came out I did not need the extra items. It may be milder or that I am warm from being out but the heating is off and the house seems warm compared to last night and earlier today.
And it stands at 14c(58c)in the bedroom...I hope it stays that way...
Kizzie, don't feel guilty about the thought of being warm and cosy, we should all have that as a right, that leaving heating off is through choice not because it is a decision forced on you..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I never thought about an electric blanket, i've found some really cheap ones, may not be the best, but it's better than nothing!
I'm deffinatly going to look into some heating slippers for him, as sometimes the pain gets so bad he can't even walk he was to lay down and raise his feet! I've found some cheap thows/blankets that say they're heated for under £20 so it's better than nothing and will deffinatly look into getting one as it's getting rather painfull, ha
Thanks everyone.
TE&CO direct had heated throws for £18, you may also want to consider a cheaper option of a sleeping bag and hot water bottle, sleeping bags can be had for a few quid. TE&CO had some for £1.99p the other day and hot water bottes are a few quid in various places.
The ain't gonna let you survive a trip in the Himalyas type quality, but good enough to do the job, and amazingly snuggly on the couch.
I really feel for you both, In the past I've been in the sleeping bag on the couch with fimgerless gloves ( before they became trendy) and a hat on ..... unmerciful it is.
Now I'm an old sickly biddy, I have to have heat, I heat the house when everyone is in and just heat the room I'm in when it's just me. I wear thermals too, very fetching... not!
Really, really hope your situation improves, take care.0 -
I haven't needed the heating on yet and Im hoping I can avoid using the gas fires all winter like I did last year! I have a storage heater in my bathroom and a small electric thermostat heater in a back bedroom or else the mould monster will take over the house but otherwisetry to cope without.
So far duvets, thermal socks and 3 doggy hot water bottles are keeping me warm enough. If it gets cold enough (hopefully not before Dec) then I will put on small heater in the one room I spend most time....its not a cost thing for me Im thankful to say, its just that I hate lining the power companies pockets!LOL:D0 -
yes it is this morning as its blooming cold.I have the water on for two hours in the morning which warms up a tankful for me which is more than enough and put the heating on for an hour at a time when needed(usually first thing in the morning.Once my house is warm it doesn't need much more than that as I had the walls insulated and 6" of loft insulation put in a couple of years ago.0

My heating will be ON today.
I was evacuated at 4.30am from my house, due to next door being on fire (its a terrace), so some of the smoke came through to my house. The firefighters opened all of my windows to let the smoke out.
They are still open at the moment, so heating is off, but it will be on as soon as i am allowed to close the windows.
What a morning, just glad i am not my neighbours, poor things. They may be druggie 'non-desirables' but they've lost everything.0 -
Has anyone had any recent experience with Halogen heaters? I've seen plenty of 1200 watt halogen heaters on Amazon and elsewhere for about £12.00. Based on my own kwh rates I've calculated it to cost between 12 and 27 pence per hour. Potentially useful for keeping a small room warm during cold spikes whilst the heating is off.
My only concern is that as the heater relies on halogen which is essentially a radiated heat that it will only heat that which is in direct line of sight rather than convecting across the whole room. Anyone used one recently?
we sometimes use one in the evening, you're right it does work line-of-sight but is so cosy!0 -
My heating is off and will stay off, I am on a pre pay meter.
I have just come off of a short stint on jsa,and I do not get paid til the last day of november. I am mainly living in one room and keeping doors shut, candles make it seem warmer, but even with duvets and gloves I am still feeling the chill.
I am looking forward to getting into work each day as it is nice and warm there.
I have literally budgeted to the last penny, my travel takes a fair chunk from my wage, plus from my time on jsa I have a backlog of bills that need paying.
However, now I have secure employment, I will be able to budget for heating next year so I am not in this pickle next year.
Even if I only had minimal bills to pay whilst I was on jsa I still wouldnt have been able to keep my heating on, the meter just eats the credit up!
I had the choice of getting gas or buying work shoes and essentials for my first day. Shoes were more important.
jobcentre doesnt seem to help anyone unless they have been on jsa for 26 weeks,no run ons no help. hey ho.SPC 2012 #1456

I failed the November challenge with only two days to go! My partner is ill and I'm nice and warm at work all day. It's been such a cold weekend and I couldn't face thinking of her being cold all day so I've put the heating on before I left the house.
Oh well, I'm pleased enough. Ordinarily I would have had the heating on at the slightest drop in temperature so I've still saved a little money.0 -
I've just flicked the heating on as it's really cold here, but I will also get some more layers I think.
I work from home on Mondays, and I might go up in the loft for the halogen heater, as I stay in one room. Better than heating the whole house. I think mine oscillates too. And the dining room (aka my office!) isn't huge...Bossymoo

Our heating is on for 2 hours in the early morning and late evening. It's 21.9 degrees in here currently. Having said that though we live in a small 1 bedroom modern flat, so heat from the neighbours and heat from leaving the oven door open after cooking really warms the place up!!
A far cry from the old poorly insulated flat I lived in alone, where I could see my breath in bed with 2 duvets on :-( lol
We don't have GSH, just a 750w oil filled radiator in the bedroom, and 1kw oil filled radiator in the sitting room, not sure about cost. We are saving money though by not heating up a 3kw hot tub for 12 hours on end lol_________________________________________
