Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Just made an emergency trip to the shops for essential supplies. Hot chocolate, chocolate pudding and kelloggs crunchy nut clusters (the last item because they were reduced). It would probably have been cheaper to just turn the heating on0

I have to say it's blummin' freezing today!!!! The goal was to get to November without putting the heating on and I think we can still get there by wearing thick socks and sitting in one room with the doors closed. We had the house insulated at the start of this year so we are yet to see if this will make a difference when we switch the heating on! Going to see if we can make it to the middle of November now before it goes on, I just hope it doesn't get much colder than it is now!2012 '1% at a time' member 99 - 17% 1% = £167

You may find some really great tips there on how to stay warm. I agree with Fire Fox, get an electric blanket if you can. Look on freecycle, and also Facebook has local selling sites that you can ask on as well.
I never thought about an electric blanket, i've found some really cheap ones, may not be the best, but it's better than nothing!

I've bought some for my partner who has poor circulation.
Also with a few people mentioning heated underblankets, we got one of these a couple of years ago and it's been one of our best purchases. However there's the initial outlay at the beginning (ours was £50 for a Homefront Double with dual controls), which you may just want to spend on heating? You can get a heated throw for around £20.
I'm deffinatly going to look into some heating slippers for him, as sometimes the pain gets so bad he can't even walk he was to lay down and raise his feet! I've found some cheap thows/blankets that say they're heated for under £20 so it's better than nothing and will deffinatly look into getting one as it's getting rather painfull, ha

Has anyone had any recent experience with Halogen heaters? I've seen plenty of 1200 watt halogen heaters on Amazon and elsewhere for about £12.00. Based on my own kwh rates I've calculated it to cost between 12 and 27 pence per hour. Potentially useful for keeping a small room warm during cold spikes whilst the heating is off.
My only concern is that as the heater relies on halogen which is essentially a radiated heat that it will only heat that which is in direct line of sight rather than convecting across the whole room. Anyone used one recently?0 -
I've been out since 6am and have come home from work to find that I can see my breath in my house. A bit chilly!! Definitely a hint to turn on the dehumidifier!
This is when the storage heaters are annoying because there's no way I'm charging them up if I'm not home until 9pm.... Curled up under a heated throw (which I can highly recommend!) and I'm sure I can make it a couple of hours until bed time.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

Heating is most definitely ON this morning. Fingers crossed it doesnt need to be used too much during the day!
Me too kizzie, sorry to hear things are so tough. I'm just worried now how you'll cope during the coldest months. Jan can be a shocker for bitterly cold days0 -
I started using halogen heaters at the beginning of the year when my boiler broke down. Just started using it again. I have my gas central heating on for a couple of hours in the morning and the same in the evening. I use the halogen heater just to warm the room up if no heating on and I'm sitting. It does give off a lot of heat and will raise the room temp by a couple of degrees.0
