14.7 here this morning and that's with the storage heater on!!

Put an extra fleece blanket over the double quilt last night and felt a lot warmer, slept better!

I don't have any heating in the kitchen either, I look forward to having the oven door opening after cooking!

Had an increased electric bill yesterday, nearly £32 for a month.. and it's not even warm in here! I've barely had any heating on, it's a ridiculous charge, dread to think what it would be if I did have it on all the time.

    Hi

On now. Will turn off when I go out. Glad that the next couple of days will be milder.:j:)

I had a radiator in my kitchen but had it removed. Now that the boiler's installed there it get really warm. Handy when I'm making bread.:)

  • hi guys and gals

Everywhere in my flat is freezing apart from the living room! Heating not on at the mo but was on for about 2 hours this morning at 20c. Loads of things I could do but don't have the money for at the mo :)

We had ours for a couple of days last week, but it's back on now. Like others I don't have heating in the kitchen - there is a radiator but I've turned it off. When I'm cooking the kitchen gets hot enough.

Does turning off just one radiator actually save any money though? I always thought that it was the boiler and thermostat that used the energy.....so it was the same cost for 6 radiators as for 5 and the only way to save money was to turn the thermostat down, or change the timer?

I didn't do it for money saving - I've got my heating on 24/7 on low. It's just that the radiator is in an awkward place behind a fridge which I use as a cupboard for my tupperware containers (it's not plugged in). I think if you have the fancy type of radiators where you can control the temperature of each it might make a difference, but the whole heating system in this house is antwacky. I can but dream of getting my own house one day and actually having some say in the heating of it (underfloor would be nice :D)

This is a burning question I've always had, but also which is cheapest, having the thermostat lower and having rads on high or the other way around? I can't seem to find the answer.

Well, our heating is on 90 minutes in the morning, and the same in afternoon and night. We have a vent in the wall, so very drafty. Having a job keeping warm.

does anyone know if these halogen heaters or even the panel heaters are any good for keeping the cold at bay?

I mean both heating and costwise to run?

I understand - I just wondered as by having the CH on, I'm currently heating the whole house to warm up downstairs - which seems silly when there's no-one upstairs during the day (apart from me when I go to the loo)

Maybe I'd be better off not using the CH at all and buying an electric heater for the lounge instead?
