Is your heating ON or OFF?

Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! -2 outside here today but I am not putting the heating on. I am in here myself, will pop it on if it's still cold later for the wee one coming back. I have my fleecy pj bottoms and leggings on along with a t-shirt, jumper, fleece and slanket. I'm not too cold but my hands are getting to the sore numb stage (probably a hint I should get off the pc
).
I haven'[t had mine on for the last 3 days which I'm pretty pleased with.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

hi all,
we live in the old maisonette type house with stone walls and bad insulation. the house does have double glazing, however, there are lots of small cracks all round the windows and the house gets cold really quickly.
we have an open fire in the living room and try our best not to switch the heating on during the day (we have it on in the morning and then after 4 pm)
back in the beginning of December we bought heating oil and filled the tank full (cost us £570!!!)
the coal for the open fire costs us £40 a fortnight on top of the above
now, the temp in the house during the day is never above 14C  and we are generally confined to the living room which is just a bit warmer, if it drops to 12C then we normally boost the heating for a bit. the heating is set not to go above 18C so even in the evening it's never above this
however, considering we try to be really careful our oil indicator is already at level 4!!! which means we've somehow managed to use about 600 litres of it in less than 2 mths. SHOCKING
are we doing something wrong or do these costs seem reasonable?0 -
well, on 20 degrees now, my last bill was 112 for a MONTH (gas and electricity combined) - will see what it comes up to this time... due on the 21st hmmmmm0

I'm still enjoying the vision of a little dog in a fleece and proper going-out coat. I need pictures, really. Also, I think we need pics of your hounds, too. Especially ones of them spread out and roasting under heat-lamps. Particularly the very handsome DogDog. Thankyouplease
:rotfl::rotfl: I'll try and take some this week for you.
We have woodburner on and dog lamps.
It's very very cold, and we have been working outside most of the day and have come in now freezing. The house feels warmer than outside car?tainly, but not really warm. As the kitchen thermometer reads five degrees I do not feel profligate sticking a portable heater on in there to warm it up before I go and do the dishes and supper. It's a tip in there, and needs a good clean to Oreos, so likewise I will put the heater on in the morning so it has an hour or so to get warm before I go in to clean in comfort.
Upstairs it's been airing today, the weather is meant to be grim later in the week so I thought I'd let it have a good blow through with the cold but clean and dry air.0 -
Had the energy bill yesterday, £50 lower than the same time last year which is good but not great considering the heating has been off a lot as its been so mild. Anyone else had a bill?
No. Our electricity supplier is being odd about bills ATM. They did this last year then sent us a massive bill because they refused to take a metre reading over the phone or put us on a domestic tariff.
This year the electricity bill will be higher , as have had to use electric heaters for christmas, the dog lamp and the immersion for hot water. But we at least have no oil bill at all.
I am so relieved that the cold weather comes now not earlier. However bad it gets now its not too long till spring, there is a light at the end of the cold tunnel for those of us with no/limited heating or no money to pay for heating.
Next year, I really do hope our heating is installed though. I'm tough as regards cold, and never have it on hot, but the days when I'm not well have not been brilliant.0 -

Yep had our heating bill in for gas and elec and really pleased with it, still in credit despite having the heating on approx 14 hrs per day, well insulated house really cant and wont grumble about the bill, , but whatever happens in life I will never have a cold house , its far too uncomfortable...........................0 -

Re the insulation and heating on, is that that you leave it on but it doesn't always click on...I mean, isn 't the point of insulation that it shouldn't need to be on on all the day?0
