Still on timer here morning and evening. 7.00am-8.30am and 7.00pm-9.00pm - though tonight it got 'fast-forwarded' at 6.00pm. Although it's been a lovely day it was freezing once the sun went down; I'd been to the GP at 5.00 and was freezing when I got back home again.
Oh that timer sounds lovely :rotfl:. I'd love that - really need to try and do something about the rubbish night storage heating that I have
Well last night was -2 driving home from work  but it was still warmer inside. This morning is now sitting at just under 10C indoors so I think its time to give in :rotfl:. I am out all day today at work but the heating (if switched on just now) will only be starting to work by tomorrow morning and both DS and I will be home tomorrow so thats it decision is made and as I said previously at least we managed a bit longer (and into November) this yearEmma

we thought about a gas cooker but decided the faff would be more than it was worth, I am a keen cook but can cope with electric more than I can cope with the gas running out on me!

i live abroad and we had a gas bottle (large) to supply the gas hob and an electric over for cooking with--the main bathroom originally had a gas bottle with a heater on it for hot water system--we moved over to a emersion tank for safety reasons --i still retain this tank alternative despite having a combi because gas is supplied to this area by İran!--we had oil and i was never sure how much oil i had left in the tank--when we had the combi installed i syphoned off 6 large jerry cans of unused oil which i had miscalculated on--oil is a mystery to me on how it 'lasts and the tank had no functioning gauge--another side affect was airborn particles and making the place around the boiler dirty(my study!!(-

No chance of mains gas here, and we hope to change to a system ike ground or air source cobined with PV or something one day.....our oid tank has a clear guage thank goodness....I hope its accurate!
edit: ON..
I planned an ''off'' day after my indulgence yesterday and the very beautiful clear day here. In fact, I got up and started flinging open windows to air the house and alleviate the condensation...but a friend just called and is coming over to do some yoga, and stretching in a cld house is no good so I've just closed the windows and turned on the heating it can stay on for an hour.0 -
as long as you dont go for solar--our roof has just been replaced after just 20 years because of the damage caused by the weight of the tanks on the structure--im glad i steered clear--its sunny enough all year to get your hot water from the sun here--a lovely sunny warm day here and i am back in a tee shirt and light jeans--i can feel my cold being stoked up!!--still on 2 out of 10 days with the heating on and temps look ok til the end of the month!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

I have been putting £20 in my gas pp meter every week even during the summer so where we were only using a max of £5 a week during the summer we have a lovely credit build up on meter .so hopefully will be able to carry on putting in £20 a week and not more during the winter
Thats a really good ideaMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
the best things that save me energy during the winter and keeps me cool during the summer are external shuttered blinds! i live in a flat abroad and all my balconies are enclosed--i would like to see a simular form of insulation available in the uk--my balcony back there is a complete waste of space come the rains of summer and winter deluges!!--you can sit on them in the rain and have them angled so you keep dry!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

Oil makes you think twice about putting the heating on.
When I lived in London and was on the gas with a wonderfully efficient combi boiler - heating was never an issue - if it was cold it went on simple as that. I would think nothing of running it all night if I was sat up and cold ( insomnia)
Now Im on the oil and I begrudge having it on.Having to pay for it in one lump sum and then seeing your tank deplete really makes you aware how much you are using and how much it costs.
Having the olds live with me means its on more then I would like. But I cant make them economise any further then I am, they dont understand how much it costs as they have nothing else to spend their money on
I am on oil and pay for mine by monthly direct debit on a budget plan scheme, which also includes the annual service and any parts and labour for other callouts throughout the year.
The anniversary for mine in 31 July so I usually have enough in credit then to get half a tank and then get another half around now ready for the winter so at the moment it is full this will then last through until next July. The comapny also pays interest on any credit balance on the account.
We do have a coal fire which we tend to use at night and only have the ch come on for an hour before bedtime to take the chill off the rooms, our bedroom does not have any heating at all, the boys have radiators and they take hot water bottles up with them, they also have double sized duvets on single beds so no gaps.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26).
