I can't understand it when someone says the sun is heating up their house and it's cosy with no heating on. My heating has only been off for about 3 hours and it's absolutely freezing in here - I look like Rudolph's long lost cousin! I'm wrapped up but i'm shivering and my fingers are frozen. I don't smoke, my circulation is okay so it's not that - it's just that i'm cold. I'm off to iron to see if the steam can warm me up. I might bake later on so I can get some heat from the oven! There's no way I couldn't have the heating on at all but i'm trying to cut back. I was round at my son's this morning. There's no-one living there yet but we were waiting for a delivery. He is heating his empty house for an hour in the morning and another in the evening so it doesn't get damp - and it was like a fridge in there - there was no real need for the fridge/freezer we were waiting in for!

My bungalow is south facing and we have very large windows as most bungalows do, plus we have a conservatory south facing so it would be warm....our living rooms are south facing , but our bedrooms are north facing, that we dont mind cos we dont like heat in the bedrooms ........but the temp in the bedrooms can be 12 degrees lower than the south facing rooms....

In the conservatory at 8 this morning it was 6 degrees....:eek:but when the sun shone through it was 24 degrees at 12 ....with the sun out ,obviously its near all glass ......but by 3 it dropped in there to 12......so the door got shut and on went the GCH.......weve got no heat in the conservatory....that would be total waste as the heat goes out of the roof as quick as you turn it on......

BRRR freezing here again today, minus one outside and 18 inside.

My heating is on low and it will soon be left on low for the winter, i like to keep the house heated at a low level to keep the doggies comfortable when it gets really cold and it helps with drying the washing and also helps the condensation.

It takes a while to warm the house up when the outside temps are low as we are in a 30`s house. We have double glazing, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation but it still gets amazingly cold. I shudder to think what it was like before those improvements were carried out.

On the plus side our gas and electricity usage is below the national average so we arn`t doing too badly :D

Had a bit of a fright the other night as the carbon monoxide alarm went of at one thirty in the morning, cue me standing outside in the rain with all the doors and windows open

Its re set and not gone off since so alls well, i have found reports of false alarms which made me feel better. I`ve ordered a new one which will be here soon so then i`ll either have two on the go or just bin the old one. They only have a life of seven years before they have to be replaced anyway and although i can`t remember when we bought it it must be approaching the end of its life. It did this once before at the last house and gave us a scare. Can`t be too careful with these things though.

The weather forecast for the next few days is horrendous so stay warm peeps.

    evening all

i woke up this morning to find mine had switched itself on, thermostat was set at around 13 so it must have been cold in and clicked it on, it was off by 7.30 and vie moved the dial down to 10

sat tonight in pj's with a hot water bottle, socks and my fleece over me and im warm as toast, if i sort my 2 water bottles 30 mins before bed then i shall be toasty without the cold just in bed feeling.

  • If you put a couple of drops of fairy liquid onto a cloth and wipe your windows over with this it stop any condensation builing up

Its an old trick that most of my mum/friends always did first thing in a morning and I follow this tradition and it works.

It is really cold in Yorkshire, our heating is on. I love my m&s houseboots, my sister recommended them and they really keep my feet warm. My youngest son doesn't seem to feel the cold he is sat in pyjama shorts and his socks!

    Keep warm everyone

  • Mine's on :( Using the timer for morning and evening and boosting it as needed during the day - I'm at home all day most days. Have the thermostat turned to the half-way point (it doesn't give the temp) but did turn it up to 3/4 this morning as it was *so* cold. I ended up switching it off and going to bed with the electric blanket and William-cat though - I'd got too cold and couldn't get warm again :(
