OH cracked today while I was out and put the heating on for an hour, I was quite pleased as I got soaked walking back from tesco! It's off again now but the damp feeling has gone from the air.
  • After all the rain and howling wind last night kept me awake i've just checked thermostat in the hall it clicked on 13c don't think it's ever been that cold in there before and it's only 16 in the living room will have to put heating on later as my youngest got nasty cold and we need to go out after school to see her big sis it's her birthday today, will have to wrap up as i don't like being cold then when we get back i will put heating on low and put big wash load on maybe 2 loads

I had my eldest son conplaining about the cold last night, and it's even colder today, so I'll probably call it a day this evening and put the heating on. I'm pleased that we've got this far without it, so I can't say that I mind putting it on now:)

DD2 is at pre-school. Will not be putting the heating on until this evening now as we can either layer up or go out lol.
Apologies to everybody, as I don't mean to change the thread. I'm rather curious, though.

My sons' are both grown-up now, so I have no dealings with shcools. This is twice in the last few days that I have seen someone write "pre-school". Now, when my boys were little, it was called "nursery". Have they now changed the name to pre-school?

Pre-school is also known as play school. Where I live a nursery is somewhere they can go all day from say 6am-7pm at any age whereas a pre-school or play school is for 2.5hrs a day be it morning or afternoon and for 2.5/3yrs olds until they start school.

When I was little it was called play school.

I hope that makes sense lol.

I have cracked and put mine on as it was 12.5C inside.

But it is really rubbish heating and I am still cold. The guy who put it in 2 years ago has been assuring me he will put it right but still hasn't. Now he wants to charge me a lot of money to fix what was a botched job in the first place. Sorry for going OT, needed a rant.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

i live in a warmer climate but i always get a cold when the autumn arrives--its not cold but the differnce between days causes me to always get a cold--the minimum it has gone down to this year is about 10 but it can still be up to 23 in the day-it swings almost daily and i get it bad!--i have to put my heating on when i get a cold to cheer me up and warm my bones--for the first few years here i only had oil heating and suffered in the cold because it was so inefficient and expensive!--it was only an option when the day time temps got into low single figures but now i really appreciate natural gas-its also very cheap here because of the state running the show and negotiating a politically good price!

Thanks mummygems. I was thinking that there may have been a Nation wide name change since my boys were little.
However, it occurred to me after I posted, that when my niece came to visit us a few weeks ago, she told me that her little boy, who's 2, has just started 'nursery' for a couple of hours, three days a week.
It sounds as though they use different names now for the same thing :)

Oh how vile is this weather?

Mines on, there`s just no way i can do without it now that i`m in out of the rain, its gale force winds and heavy rain lashing against the windows.

I`ve spent most of the day soaked and feel lousy so i`ve put washing on the rads and the heating is on. I`ll treat myself to a nice hot shower shortly and an early night. I just can`t seem to get myself warm Bleurgh!

Little black cat is warm though, she`s been running around like a lunatic chasing things that only she can see :D

DH and the dogs are camping  He was going to come home tonight but left it too late to pack everything away and it was too dark so he`ll be back tomorrow - bet he`s already home by the time i finish work instead of turning up at 11pm :D

If i had my way i`d hibernate now until the spring :D

    Keep warm peeps.

be interesting to know whether this economising with the heat causes more or less colds--i get more colds because i go from warm to cold places during the day--but being cold isnt nice but does it cause you colds??

Yes, certain virii need cold temperatures.

This is why the body creates a high temperature, to make the body inhospitable to the virus.

They will spread at any temperature but some strains require real cold .
