  • I had to read my meters for the energy company today and for the second quarter running they queried my gas meter reading as I had only used 20 units. It is only used for one shower a day and one or two small washing up sessions, so without the heating being on it is very light on gas indeed. I have solar panels so in summer and very sunny weather I use very little power indeed and my standing order has gone from £66 per month to £45 as I am £300 in credit. And that's after a year which saw one of the coldest winters on record so I am really pleased.

Holding out until 1st October but I am not going to make myself miserable with cold so will just put it back on when it is no longer comfortable.

It was beautifully warm yesterday, despite the breeze.

I too am in credit on my energy bills, but only because they insist on taking a silly payment in the summer as well as the winter. There's little point in adjusting it now, as I'm sure my usage will go up after the next fortnight. Money in the pot now will make it a little less painful to pay extra when there's fog in the air.

Although I do realise its silly to lend the energy companies money for nothing, interest rates being what they are, there is little point in creating extra work for the sake of it.

  • I was cold when I came in last night and even with winter pyjamas on, I am very cool this morning. I see the nighttime temperature is going down to 4C over the next few days and I am unsure whether I can last much longer....The worst thing is coming in from either a heated car of from a restaurant which has been very warm. I really notice it then. Still, hot shower and then warmer clothes should do it for today and a nice warming curry for later.

  • Off, yet the thermostat has not kicked it in yet! BoPsie is getting close to lighting the fire!
  • For the past few evenings, I've put nightie/fleece dressing gown on to watch TV and OH put the Gas Fire on at its lowest setting last night - but only after we'd closed the blinds/curtains to try to retain any warmth that was in the room ..................... very little after a day of torrential rain/thunder/lightning .

When cooking, I'm closing the kitchen blinds - windows open just a fraction to let steam out - and leaving kitchen door open, helps to circulate the warm air around the flat, as well.

Still hopeful for 1st November for C/H - but won't punish myself too much, if I have to resort to it sooner. My mobility is a bit reduced at the moment, so circulation not quite as good as normal :(. It IS building up, albeit rather slowly ;)!
  • Still of in West Yorkshire, but think I will change the duvet over to winter this weekend.
I tend to have a hot bath early evening with a cosy dressing gown on fine so far......
  • Still off in South Yorkshire, but it's definitely getting nippier. The past two nights I've been wearing PJ's to bed instead of just a big t-shirt & also put a blanket over the summer duvet, but I can definitely feel it getting cooler now.
The winter duvet isn't far off coming out, now.

Indoor temp this morning was 16c, so definitely dropped from the 19c of last week. No heating used as yet, mainly because I've been working longer shifts as overtime at work so I'm hardly in the house atm.

Trying to hold off til October, but I'll be back on normal shifts a week on Monday & will be home from 5pm, so I might be turning the thermostat up from 10c to 18c again & letting the timer do its thing.

Annoyingly, I switched from Scottish power to Eon at the end of July, so I've no credit built up from not using any gas in summer...
  • Just put it on in W Yorks. But OH is on anti-coagulents, so feels the cold. And I've only put it on for a couple of hours morning and evening. We've had the gas fire on a few evenings when it's been cold and wet outside.

We can usually hold out until October, but this week we've had it on for an hour in the mornings to warm up the house. It's not too bad during the day when we're moving about but come evening time, even with extra layers of clothes, socks, throws etc, it's a bit on the nippy side so it's been on for another hour early evening. :( Trying to hold off from a permanent "on" for as long as we can though. :D

Our dual fuel fixed price plan finishes at the end of this month. We normally go for a short-term 12 month fix but I can't see prices coming down any time soon so, after a lot of thought, we've bitten the bullet and gone for a long-term one this time. Two years for electric with no exit fee and 3 years for gas with an exit fee. The individual unit prices are a bit more than we pay now :( but at least we can control those by thinking about what we use/when/for how long. On the plus side, the daily standing charges that you have to pay - even if you don't use any gas or electric - are lower. :) That, along with being in credit before winter comes, should keep our monthly DD the same as now. ;)
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

It's usually at least the end of October before I put on heating and see no reason for that to change.I have been using a hot water bottle but still have the summer duvet or I wake up too hot in the night.
