  • My punishment for putting on the newly washed winter duvet - I have had an allergic reaction to the chemicals the laundrette used and have been sneezing day and night, itching and with running nose. Furthermore it is due to be tropically warm for the next few days!

25C here too - so upset I ran out of time and didn't hang washing out this morning. Tomorrow is forecast cloudy but warm so hopefully will get some out then!

I think when DD is at her granny's, and DH is in a hotel for work I'm going to try and go without heating. If I time it right I can go from work, to the gym, shower there, and then get home, turn on the electric blanket, eat and then climb in with a book :D
  • I went out very early this morning (needed to be at the hospital BEFORE 8.00am ) so wore my fleece with waterproof, as rain was forecast.

By the time I came out of Mr T's at 12.00, it was as warm as the middle of summer  with a strong breeze. In Costa, I read a newpaper article that said something about 'Storm Helene' arriving with temps of around 27C ................... and I can well believe it!

No heating on right now, as my living room is feeling very warm at the moment - large windows that get all the afternoon sunshine - but I'm sure it will get colder this evening :(.

    Sorry to hear that.
May I ask why you send it to the lauderette? I guess you may have a king size duvet? I put my winter double duvet (duck feather and down) in the washing machine on wool wash/delicate wash. It's a squeeze and it can be a little lumpy at first, but I dry it flat on my table in my lounge which is a bit of a greenhouse in summer and store it in the airing cupboard when almost dry.

I shouldn't laugh - last year I had to be at my local hospital at 07:00 for a minor procedure. No bus options at that time, so ended up cycling there.

No heating on here and in the last two days have been able to turn off the hot water.

I have large windows to my apartment too (and I hate them) - I wonder whether I should be tapping into the energy generated with some solar panel appliance/gadget.

Gave in and turned the heating on the other night as the house was cold and I had the kids visiting from England/Wales. They certainly noticed a temperature difference up here. It's been on over the past few days just on low for a couple of hours in the evening which has been enough to take the chill off. It's been a bit milder today but getting cold now with impending storm Ali so I reckon it will be on an hour this evening too. I had hoped to "last" until October before switching it on but mid-September is fairly usual for here (West of Scotland).

Believe me, I have tried to force the wretched thing into my extra large washer many times, but it just will not fit. It's a king size very light but bulky item and whilst the summer king size duvet will easily wash at home, the winter one is an absolute no-no. I could easily dry it at home as well but seeing as it has to be washed in an industrial machine, they can dry it as well. At £14 a go, the duvet is probably getting on for 20 years, I could have replaced several times over. Maybe next year.

  • It's still quite mild here in the midlands. But it helps that my new-ish build flat only has 2 of its 6 sides exposed to the elements. I'm mid-floor, mid-block, and that helps tremendously.
Even in the depths of winter, I manage perfectly well with a single portable heater set up in the hallway. And even when it's bitter outside, it'll maintain a fairly comfortable 18 degrees plus. And if I let it run for a few hours, it'll get up to 25.

Thermostat currently says 23.5C, which is just nice.

Still no. I was dreading getting home from the gym last night in the pitch black, but turned out it was extremely warm. I've gone back to wearing my trench coat to work as the heavy one just makes me sweat at the mo! Think last time I checked the Nest, our house was a temperate 21 degrees without heating!
