Heating is on. Mornings and evenings quite chilly up here and I'm pretty bad tempered when I'm cold.

I have made up a small hwb, but mainly because my back is aching. It rained a lot today, but was so pleasant when the sun finally came out this evening. And now it's dark already :o

  • Still off here but I did take our winter duvet to the dry cleaners in preparation for the coming months.
  • We lit the log burner tonight as we have been away and the house felt chilly (no CH here) a small basket of logs and the house was toasty. It has been very wet and chilly here today too.

  • Still no C/H on yet, trying my best to hold out until 1st Nov ......................... but we'll have to see what happens with the weather during the next few weeks :undecided .

Had GF on for a couple of hours earlier this evening and blinds/curtains closed as soon as the sun 'goes off the windows' - it disappears behind some roofs as it's setting, so that's when it starts to get chilly :(. I've also begun to put my nightie and fleece dressing gown on much earlier in the evening.

Still got 'summer duvet' on the bed, but may need to change for 'autumn one' soon. They join together for 'winter' :j .

Hope everybody is in a position to keep warm - don't let pride get in the way of 'warmth'!

Yesterday morning the house felt wintry, but it improved during the day.

My heating runs on thermostats and timers as it has done for the last 12 years. If it needs to come then it will

None of this faffing about wondering whether it's cold enough to switch it on and then trying to remember to switch it off if it warms up. This is what thermostats, TRVs and timers were designed for. Drag yourselves onto the 21st century and use the technology that is available

We're still holding out in SE.

I have had a cardi on a few mornings, but we've just come back from holiday where it was 31 as a minimum every day, so I've put it down to that!
  • No CH being used but I have had the small fan heater on in my bedroom when getting dressed in the mornings for the past week. Only for about 10mins or less. It's 3kw, but I only use it on the "medium" setting so guessing that's 1.5kw .

I intend to get a new one as on the 3kw setting it overheats & shuts off, & it's really good for giving my bedroom a quick boost in the morning's for before work in deepest winter when the CH only comes on for an hour to take the chill off the house; so I want a 3kw for then - I usually leave it running for 10 mins as I'm in the shower & the bedroom is nice and warm by the time I'm done so having one that isn't a fire hazard is a must!

Still have the summer duvet on, with a blanket nearby to go on top if needed, but it's not been used yet. Current indoor temps are about 19c in the bedrooms & 18c downstairs in the lounge (above the cellar, so always about 1c cooler than the kitchen). An extra jumper & fluffy socks are fine so no need for heating on. This is in S.Yorks. Daytime temps outside are in the pleasant high teens.

The house is well insulated, so copes well in winter with just an hour's CH in the mornings & 3 hours from 5pm to 8pm in the evenings on weekdays. Weekends has an extra 2hour in the day at lunchtimes & comes on at 4pm in the evening.

Two jobs I do need to do are secure up a piece of insulation board that is loose in the cellar/lounge floor & buy some some curtain liners or a blind for the lounge as the curtains are thin & the window is huge!

With a high ceiling, a cellar below a laminate floor & facing north, the lounge is usually the coldest room in the house & tends to not get above 19 or 20c in winter with the heating on. Definitely need to do these two jobs before this winter.
