My previous 'downstairs neighbour' was quite elderly and loved to put her heating on around the middle of September :j ....................... so I got quite used to not using mine until 1st Nov :rotfl: . Menfolk were complaining about it being cold about 7pm, so heating went on for an hour. More to check the pump had not seized over the last five months.
Some were much slower to heat than others so it is off to bleed the rads for me today.
Also the throws are being washed and dried and put on the ends of the sofas in readiness for it getting colder......4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

None of this faffing about wondering whether it's cold enough to switch it on and then trying to remember to switch it off if it warms up. This is what thermostats, TRVs and timers were designed for. Drag yourselves onto the 21st century and use the technology that is available
Anyone with CH will have a thermostat, that's a given. It's not unusual to be able to control this remotely using smart technology. It's the psychological leap we make in order to turn the heating on for the winter: once you feel the luxury of a heated home, it's difficult not to use it. And that is when the bills start to escalate, so there you have the MSE element to the thread. 100 years ago, common folk would not have had the luxury of CH and were inventive about how they kept their families warm. If we take a little of that OS common sense, we could save some energy and some of our hard-earned cash in the process.
Conclusion: some people may have money to burn, but I ain't one of them.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Not yet, but I'll be putting it on later this week to check and make sure all the radiators are working properly.Saving, decluttering and doing alright.:xmastree: :xmastree:0

Not on yet in Manchester. I daren't and I am so thankful to have moved into a flat where one side of windows faces the sun in the morning and the other side gets it from the afternoon. It makes a huge difference. I haven't had the heating on since early May and as my newly switched to provider (thanks guys
) has just upped my bill by £224 a year I'll be hanging on as long as I can here. I'm going to be foil backing my radiators and bubble wrapping my windows soon!

I am really hoping my neighbours underneath me are really bad with their heating usage so I get to benefit. There are 3 of them living down there and only one of me. Fingers crossed I get to leech some heat. I've always noticed how warm my flat is especially in the evening.0 -
The stove has been lit today, just a few logs
Its not really cold, but its been wet all day and feels cold and damp0 -
We have been lighting a small wood fire to ease the chill.Tonight I shall chuck a lump or two of coal in the stove.Autumn is here.0

Thought it was going to have to go on tonight as the weather is dire and the house felt very chilly & damp. Realised I still had a window open:eek::o so thankfully heating is not needed on for another day:).0

My main CH isn't on and I haven't even considered it yet. My kitchen/utility has wet underfloor heating that I just leave on all year. It actually came on one morning last weekend for the first time in about 5 months.0
