Is your heating ON or OFF?

Off but it's getting colder in the house. I wait until it gets really cold though.
I prefer to have plenty of ventilation in my house to prevent damp in the warmer months. I then have the heating on with the odd window on vent in the winter.0 -
Not on yet but I've noticed it getting colder and had to put a jumper on yesterday evening. Heating not going on until the end of September at least.0

Having had experience of gas boilers in a commercial setting, it's a balancing act really.
Having the service will find components that are wearing out due to the type of water, turning on and off continuously, gas leaking, etc. (Yes water dose corrode a boilers coil overtime.)
Plus like a cars timing, they need re-tuning to give the best performance.
But in a domestic setting the main reason is to check that there is not a build up of carbon monoxide cased by a blocked flue or dirty gas jets. This monoxide can kill you silently and you won't know it.
Also I would assume if it did go bang any damage to your house or others you wouldn't be covered with your home/building insurance if they can prove it's not been serviced.
So due to all of the above it's unfortunately a necessary evilThe more I live, the more I learn.

Have been away from the board for quite a while - so am easing myself back in again, g-e-n-t-l-y!
Definitely much colder the last couple of days, especially after we'd been away for a few days during the weekend before last. No c/h on yet, but have to confess to using the gas fire for a couple of hours one evening last week.
Long-sleeve woollie cardis have come out of the 'storage wardrobe' and beginning to put 'summer tops' back into hibernation for the winter months
Fleece throws are now out on the backs of the sofas/chairs and I've started closing the blinds/curtains as soon as 'the sun moves off the windows' each evening.
SC came out before this weekend and I made a huge 'pan of scouse' overnight. The aroma was quite distracting during the night and had to remind OH that I'd 'marked the level' before going out.

It was so utterly wet and miserable last Sunday that I lit the woodburner, more for the cheer than the heat, and the fact that I need to start to get a bed of ash to operate it most effectively after it's summer clean and clear out. It didn't need sweeping though.
I've got GCH but really only use it for hot water, and my annual consumption is about a 1000 kWh.
I'll probably have some small burns during September but it has to get really, really cold to light it in the mornings or early afternoon.
First use of the slow cooker today for some time: a casserole for the freezer but I hope there's still some time for a barbecue which I haven't had this summer.0 -
