Our heating is on for an hour each morning and three hours in the evening. The thermostat is set at 18c. We have just extended the three hours, it's really cold. There has been frost on the ground all day at 4pm it was -1c according to the local weather station.

It's getting quite cold here in the north, cars frozen up the last few mornings.

Heating on 2hrs am, 1.5hrs from around 4pm, and then around 3 hrs from 6pm. This is when i'm at work though, if i'm off I have been having it on constant at times. Still haven't got heating on much if at all in bedroom especially as I now have massive amounts of Tog on the bed, and tonight have a couple of hot water bottles.

I feel like I haven't had a decent blast of fresh air in for days, i'm off tomorrow and intend to have a good clean, so will open the doors and windows whilst doing this as i'll be warm cleaning.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Still not too bad here in Preston. No heating and the back door is still open, bit of a chilly breeze coming in but not too cold.

Mine's still on but I am feeling the cold today. I just went to put on a fleece and going to make a cuppa. I haven't had to use my hot water bottles yet though, that's when I really know it's cold.

  • Mine went on between 9 - 11pm last night while I watched TV. That was it.

Although I did have the electric blanket on the lowest setting all night. It was cold last night!

  • Was OFF until about 4am when it turned itself on..... it did this last year a few times and I started having to turn it off at the power point as I STILL have no idea how to work the blasted thing 7 years later

Can anyone tell me if I should just let it run when it does that?
It only started to do it last year now and then, before then it never did it
  • Do any if you have poor circulation? I do and I really struggle in the Autumn/Winter.
I'm making a concerted effort this year not to keep turning the heating on to deal with it but I'm starting to find it hard. I often sit with two jumpers on, drink lots of hot drinks etc... I even have an oil filled radiator in the living room next to me to help take the edge off.
The temp in my living room is usually between 18-20 which should be fine and is fine for DH and DD but I sit shivering, my feet are usually two blocks of ice!
Anyone else suffer like this? How do you deal with it?

I have very bad circulation in my legs and left arm/hand, if you're not on the go try using a few hot water bottles effected areas or those microwaveable heat pads I've been eyeing up (depends on how long they keep warm as to if I buy any).
I ware a fingerless glove on my left hand which helps it a great deal without making doing things harder (picking up coins...etc), I think I saw some gloves that you can heat up the same way as the heat pads in the chemist once. I'll have to check next time I'm in there.

If my sewing was any good I'd get a snug 'onesie' and sew pockets in it to hold heat pads in the worse effected areas, time to plan it out I think, my arm is giving me some serious gyp today

As for the feet, I use hot water bottles when not moving around, might see if I can slip a small heat pad in the top of a pair of my fluffy bed socks.
  • Thanks Moth, I have an active job so mostly I can warm myself up doing that (I live above my work) but like now when I'm on a break in freezing! Wish there was a cure for it!
My heating is on, but only when the thermostat kicks in which is set to 15c, though it's not accurate so I think it's more like 18c. I don't pay for my heating as the bills are paid for by my work, though still feel that it's important not to waste energy if possible.
