  • buy the kids another duvet.

I am almost embarrassed to say that they were both under two duvets, DD2 likes a huge kingside on which she can wrap herself up in and then a single which she puts over the top.....she also has a wholly blanket as well. I must be a terrible mother!

She has just claimed she can't get in her onesie as it's far too cold to take off the coat, jumper, t-shirt, jeans, tights and socks she has on! :rotfl:
  • Still off here too :) I've found that when it starts getting a little chilly at around 8pm and we bake bread or a pie or flapjacks (tonight, yum) the heat of the oven warms the house up and so we're well fed and happy too :)
  • Been at work all day.

Got home about an hour ago, and will be going to bed soon, so didn't see the point in putting the heating on.

Currently 58.3f (14.6c) in my living room, so reasonably comfortable, as long as I keep my jacket on.

If it goes below 20f (10c), the CH is definitely going on.

Off here in Wiltshire 19c in LR only candles burning.
  • I gave in and put the heating on for an hour this eve, I am layered up and all the doors are closed, but I just couldn't get warm, heating is off now. Got a few candles lit, and the duvet and the eiderdown over me , but I still feel cold. Too cold to brave going to the kitchen to make up the water bottle, the floor is slate, and makes the whole room feel freezing.

    I usually light candles,
makes the room cozy but do they actually make a difference temperature wise? I cant see that 2 or 3 candles would make a difference?

  • Does anyone know what the recommended temperature for sleeping is? My bedroom is now 10 degrees and whilst I am happy to sleep in those sort of temperatures I am not convinced it's healthy.

It's not that I can't afford heating, more that I love sleeping in a cold room but I just popped up there and I could see my breath as I exhaled! :rotfl:

Had a lightbulb moment this morning and decided to hoover my windows free of condensation using my Karcher window vac! Simples! Opened the window as well to give the room a blow then shut it again half an hour later and room felt lighter and fresher. Let's see if it helps long term!
:hello:  please play nicely children !

Still off here - was colder today, but mainly wind chill, so not a lroblem indoors :)

Have tasked OH to go and price up a remote control thermostat, as DD kept on changing the temp to thermo nuclar last winter - cost a bloomin fortune. Remote control jobby should pay for itself this year, as long as we hide it from DD ;)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

    £300/£130

Recommended temp for bedroom is 18. I've got a remote control thermostat. Heating comes on and after a good while I put the thermostat near the radiator so that if it drops below 18 it will click on. If I left thermostat in centre of room it would run constantly. This is when Im in the house. I have a really cold living room. If Im out at work its just on timed till I come back.

Did a experiment on this method last week to see cost over a week and it was £12. When weather gets much colder will put thermostat up to 20.

We haven`t put the ch on yet, pellet stove and very well insulated house. We bought in and moved a tonne of pellets and it is that which is holding me back, we deliberately get 10kg bags as they are easy to handle but still need moving and stacking and it gets a bit harder the older we get. So we are heating via electric just now: 2 lakeland towel rails on a timer and on all day (92w each), they are in the n side hall and landing. Most of the house is south side and gets lovely and warm in the sun and retains the heat but we have a heater in front of the stove, set on 20 and it rarely comes on and one in the bedroom set on 18. Very good so far and very comfortable. The heaters were very expensive but are ultra efficient at throwing heat into every corner quickly

We need to use the immersion heater every other day, it heats the whole tank from the bottom. The stove will heat the water efficiently, top first as the coil is near the top but ch and hot water are linked so we use the immersion for now. Solar panels are also connected and that coil is at the bottom of the tank but not much input at this time of year

We keep the living area at 21-22 and bedroom at 18. Needs must now because of age

I just decided to read the meter again and have worked out that we are paying £5.60 a week extra, that is good. We would be paying more than that in pellets and this is more convenient ie no extra cleaning or getting too hot
