What shopping bags do you use?

I have a couple of Center Parcs foldable bags with studs - these have lasted a good couple of years and still going strong. I like my blue Tesco Ladybird bag for shopping, also my Morrisons bag. Got a couple of Jute bags, one being a free NHS one I got from my antenatal clinic recently, it's a good size too.

They look really good, considering getting my mum one! She uses the massive Tesco bags that crinkle and don't look particularly appealing. She's also used them in the past to put the recycling in but she can never remember which one is her recycling one so there's ominous stains in the bottom of them. I think she'd approve of the fruit bags too!

Ah I love the tesco cath kidston ones but I remember I was too skint at the time to buy them. I regret that now! A set of 4 just went for £27 on ebay +P&P! Aaaaghhhh

I don't really like the supermarket ones because they have the shop logo plastered all over them

I use the Cath Kidston tesco bags... didn't get them all wish I had now,just looked at the 'trolley dolly' link and would love one of those lol

I bought 4 bags from Lakeland some years ago, they are still going strong and stay in the boot of the car so I always have them with me. I think they were fairly expensive around £11.00 for two, they are made from some sort of woven plastic type stuff, very strong a durable with wooden handles.

In wales come October shops etc have got to charge for carrier bags ( there are certain shops exempt butchers etc) I think there is a 5p levy per carrier bag

I must admit i do have some love ck bags that i bought in mr t, but i just keep forgetting to take them etc,

so basically i thought i would start this thread, to pre-warn people in wales to get their os shopping bags ready for the 1st of October,( I should imagine it will not be long before its rolled out across the country) and discuss the best bags/baskets for carrying/holding the heavy shopping..

Also can you remember what type of bags your parents/grandparents used to use

I can remember those string/net bags..... My gran allways used to take her own bags..as the shops used to charge for bags.... I think it was the supermarkets that started giving out free bags to try and get more customers through the doors.... supermarkets have alot to answer for

More and more shops round here are charging for bags so I always carry some shopping bags in my handbag.

The ones that I use fold away into little pouches and therefore don't take up much room in your handbag.

We don't really have the problem except from TKMaxx but I always carry a few shopping bags of my own anyway, not only is it better for the environment but they are easier to carry and they look pretty.

I have 4 I got from The Works at 2 for 99p, they were advertised as £4.99 each!!! They fold into little bags and take up no room at all. I find they are strong enough to carry shopping from Asda including 4 pints of milk, boxes of milkshake mix, awkward items etc.

I also have one of the large wicker type bags from Asda. It was oly 98p and is really thick, I find I can carry a decent amount in there and is the sturdiest of them all. If you buy them at each trip you don't notice the cost. The only problem with them is that they are really bulky to store in your handbag.

If any of you walk or take a bus my mum used to have a pull along trolley that was excellent for putting lots of heavy goods in and being able to wheel them home. I suppose that only really matters if you have no car access or do a delivery to get the heavier items.

I use a trolley as my back can't cope with heavy bags but for lighter shopping trips I use cotton bags bought at various times on days out, for instance I have a Sidmouth lifeboat station one and another for a fairly local special needs school. These bags are great, they fold up to nothing so they're easy to carry in my handbag, they're washable and the charity gets benefits too; its also nice to be reminded of the lovely days out

I work in The Works and always recommend the reusable bags, we have a lot of nice ones in at the moment too.

I think the qualty of carrier bags has gone down hill over the years and I know the carrier bags at work are not that strong. I think companies should switch to stronger bags and charge people cause it would work out a lot better than the flimsy bags that snap when your half way home.
